Ural Airlines Pilot Challenges Criticism After Emergency Landing
Following the emergency landing of an Airbus A320 in a wheat field near Novosibirsk, Russia, last September, Ural Airlines pilots have faced criticism. Captain of the flight rebutted the claims, blaming airline policies and management attitudes towards pilots for the incident rather than pilot error. Despite initial technical issues leading to the landing decision, the captain argued that the airline's poor handling of crew reports and excessive management pressure compromise safety, influencing decisions under duress. Iran A300 Incident Report Released
The Iranian Civil Aviation Authority (CAO) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Board (AAIB) released a report on April 14th, 2024, detailing the root causes and safety recommendations from two smoke incidents involving an Iran Air Airbus A300-600, registration EP-IBA. On October 23rd, 2023, while en route from Istanbul, Turkey to Tehran, Iran, the aircraft diverted to Tabriz, Iran due to smoke detected in the cockpit and cabin at 33,000 feet. The investigation identified an oil leak from a broken bearing manifold in the left engine's hot air system as the source, leading to recommended enhancements in aircraft system integrity checks and emergency response protocols for similar future events. Q&A: SARPcheck safety audit, global wet lease, codeshare, ACMI Booster
Question:
How long does it take from the conclusion of the audit till Phase I registry entry?
Answer:
According to the SARPcheck Program Manual SCPM, the completion of all audit activities qualifies an operator for immediate inclusion in the public Phase I registry. Subsequently, the operator can choose whether to resolve any non-conformities. If a Safety Quality Organization (SQO) verifies that all non-conformities are resolved, the operator immediately qualifies for inclusion in the Phase II registry.
In this series I am answering some of the many questions I am asked following the recent release of this new program, which boosts both safety levels and airline businesses by enabling wet leases, codeshares, charters and ACMI. Send me your questions or find more information on www.SARP.org !
