PILING OR BLOCKWORK QUAY WALL?
Searching through Old office files I think I have found the answer to a question regarding the construction of a Marina Business Hub ( Free Zone). To construct from Cement Block work or using piles with concrete capping blocks. Marinas are of course shallower than your average port. Average Marina depth 3-3.5 Metres. I recall we designed the Hamriyah Inner Harbour to -7 MLW. A project that Sold Out very quickly and was a commercial success.
In amongst these documents in storage was also the Salalah Free Zone Early study documents by UK based PORTIA and W S Atkins.
Observing the mistakes during the construction of the Dubai Palm whereby no maritime craft can enter or berth alongside the many villas. It was supposed to have Yacht/boat berthing for each Villa. Any such design requires a Hydraulic Water Flow Tank Test to avoid stagnant water (much like Sharjah Lagoon that turned from a beautiful Aqua Blue into a Gravy thick Muddy Sludge). However, Sharjah Lagoon has been rectified to ensure water flow.
So 'What is the Best Design' for a Marina and Real Estate project? Time will tell and the project will thus be announced and evolve?

2 年Tony... I have a feeling that data was "Pre-Superyacht". Anything we do should have a depth of 5-6 meters.
