Pilgrims Journey of Hope and Connection
A group of US pilgrims led by Fr, Paul Kalenzi , SJ embarked on a transformative journey to Nairobi, eager to explore the local culture and forge new connections. Their adventure began with a visit to the Proposed Hekima University (PHU) directorate, Hekima University College, and the Hekima Institute of Peace Studies and International Relations. Here, they delved into discussions on the different projects and experienced the vibrancy of the local community.
The pilgrimage began with a visit to Saint Aloysius Secondary School in Kibera, highlighting hope in Kibra. They then visited Kangemi Parish, joining the community for Mass and witnessing impactful local empowerment projects. Inspired by these initiatives, the pilgrims next explored Kenya’s cultural heritage at the National Museum of Kenya, gaining a deeper appreciation for the nation’s diverse cultures. After lunch at the Utalii Hotel, they visited the PHU main campus site in Baraka-Molo, where they planted trees, symbolizing the transformative power of education.
Their journey continued with a visit to the Masai Mara, where they marveled at the wildlife and natural beauty. On the evening of 26th July, they shared a memorable supper at the Carnivore grounds with the Provincial and the PHU Directorate team. The pilgrimage concluded with a day of shopping in Nairobi for local crafts and souvenirs. Beyond physical mementos, the pilgrims carried back experiences and insights that renewed their focus on positively impacting the PHU project. This journey was transformative, allowing them to see the world and themselves through a divine lens, ensuring lasting change.
