The Pigging Steps of Joanna Lumley

Ok folks it’s tough out there yeah? Maybe we’re sitting, staring miserably into 2021 with the ass falling out the bag. Hoping the only way to avoid IR35 isn't 'not to work'. Wondering if we can remember where the office is as we hand back the laptop and then come out the spinney doors sobbing into our Costas, wondering if we’ll ever see Hazel again. Maybe we’re feeling a bit like this?

But come on let’s all think like @Mike Scotland here, you know, Mr Positivo, that ‘do this, do that’ life dynamo, the real contagion that we need to affect us right now. We got skills, we got knowledge, we got capability, we got intelligence (well some of us have, you met Johnny yeah?). We will be doing stuff again. It’s not like its war torn out there, or drought, or dictatorship regime. We have hope, we've got friends, family...maybe.

And so, just now, we got to think “look forward, not assward” (hang on…@Mike Scotland again!) and rightly so. There’re other steps out there….

And this is where I find myself, maybe ourselves, right now. I’m looking upwards, with some big steps in front of me in a vast panacea of steps. They’re the same big steps that were in front of me, from 34 years back (maybe marble or concrete I’m not sure) and there’s this light, this bright light, burning, even with my eyes tightly shut….and a voice is calling, softly in a sexy Joanna (may identify as John) Lumley, digital kind of way,

”Come on you!, Come on! Up, up you come!” and she touches my hand and squeezes….

....and I’m going to climb. I issue this “uuurrrrrrr” sound, deep and gutteral as I bend, my 55 year old knee clicks, I think my leg will break, or it's going to hurt if I fall. And I climbed.

And that’s what I did today. I climbed an ambitious crowd fund campaign and raised ￡5000 today alone!! It’s not for a natty piece of kit, like a pig that does it’s own piggability assurance that’s always correct (like that annoying young TA), no. But, it is a technology. It’s an ancient social and community technology, it’s a rural diversity technology, it’s a technology that’s sustainable, gives resilience, diversification and choice in an increasingly globalised world. It’s simple, it involves pigging in Aberdeenshire.
