The application technology team at Syngenta puts all new #pestcontrol products through rigorous tests prior to release. Anne Silva, a former senior product application specialist who now works in the state regulations department, says the team also responds to queries about existing products.

“A year or two ago, we had a deep investigation on Demand? CS #insecticide ,” she recalls. “I was asked to do a benchmarking evaluation of capsule robustness and found that our Demand CS capsules were very durable.”??

Benchmarking tests for pest control products can be tricky, since there is so much diversity in the tools and types of treatments. Therefore, researchers must be vigilant about consistency in testing methods to achieve accurate results.

?“In a single residential job, you’re treating different types of insects in several spots,” says Silva. “For termites, you have soil applications. You also have baits you can put inside the home. With Advion? MicroFlow, you can spray inside cabinets. So essentially, I have to test with all types of equipment.”

The requests aren’t only from the formulation development team, but occasionally, customer feedback will prompt a battery of tests on the product in question.

“We find ways to mimic in the lab what a customer has told us, to see if that feedback makes sense,” she says.
