THE PIECE: The Aella Hunt Is Over But The Experience Stays On with Aellans
Lagos, Nigeria— At 11 am, the hunt began.?
There is something in a treasure that fastens upon a man’s mind. He will pray and hope and bless the day he heard of it when he lays his hands on it….He will see it every time he closes his eyes and will never forget the joy of finding that which is hidden.? (Conrad Joseph, Nostromo- The Tale of the Seaboard)
With the eagerness to find the missing treasures; Aella’s loyal customers were early risers to find the most expensive paper boxes and QR codes. For them, December was about to take a turn for good.?
While 2022 came to a close, Aella made paradise in what will later become memories for its customers’ delight. In this exhilarating experience, they were to wear their thinking hats (like the famous Sorting hat in Harry Potter, if you may) to pass the test of curiosity, determination, and tenacity to win.
To end the year, Aella began its inaugural edition of the Aella hunt, an incentive-driven gamification for its existing and potential new users. In the hunt, qualified participants were to assemble at the chosen locations-—Lekki Conservation Centre and Shodex Garden to search for hidden boxes across different spots by following the trail of clues provided.??
It wasn’t just a hunt but also an attempt to make a treasure hunt of impact—connecting the participants to the brand in significant places. With this, the hunt helped people find happiness in places they wouldn’t take a second glance at.?
Lekki Conservation Centre?
Built by the Chevron Corporation for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) as a reserved sanctuary for the rich flora and fauna of the Lekki Peninsula, the Lekki Conservation Centre is a biodiversity conservation icon and environment education centre.?
The 78 hectares of land is a swamp that aims to protect different animals, reptiles and bird life from extinction. It was marked for the Aella Hunt Amazonia for this purpose. To help participants to experience the mangrove forest and its famous canopy work, connecting them with nature in its beauty.?
Shodex Garden?
Popular on the mainland for its lush and green scenery, the Shodex garden is an environment with nature’s best. It is a garden for tourism, horticulture and relaxation. From its mini-zoo to the playground, the park was marked as the perfect spot for the Aella Hunt Eden.?
Pushing Beyond Odds and Doubts: A Tale of Positivity
Of the thousands of qualified participants for the hunt, only 10 successfully emerged winners of the one million naira prize. Read the qualification procedure here.?

The Aella hunt was Adebunmi’s first win ever. She couldn’t believe her luck when she found her box in quite an unusual spot in the LCC’s forest. Before the commencement, she admitted she wasn’t confident of the outcome. She only kept a positive mind and let her instinct guide her. Expressing her excitement, she explained that the hunt meant a lot to her as it was her first time winning a challenge.?
One thing Ismail and Mustapha had in common was their initial doubts. Though Ismail qualified for the first week, he explained that he was only able to convince himself to take a shot after he received a notification for the second hunt.
Mustapha however took his chances as he couldn’t shake off the feeling of missing something grand.
According to him: “At first I thought I was going to be wasting my time, but on second thought, I wasn’t doing anything important today so I took my chances and fortunately it was worth it.”
For Pricilla, the hunt was an opportunity to make extra money in a distressed economy. She explained she was more than positive, almost confident that she would win because she had to.?
Olajide’s will to participate seemed to have met rather familiar but unfortunate circumstances—Lagos traffic which almost made him get behind time. What he however didn’t anticipate was the tide turning in his favour. According to him, it was as though the universe rewarded his rough day.
Speaking on the Aella Hunt, Mary said she had been working all year long. Despite the tension of winning, the hunt and the serenity of the garden helped her to unwind from the year’s stress. She further admitted that winning the challenge made the last days of the year for her, the highlight of 2022.?
