Picturing A World Without Cancer

The Fight To End Cancer started as an outlet through which I could bring together all of my passions: my business Kingsway Boxing, my corporate network and my entertainment life with magician, Richard Forget. Developing this unique fundraising event allowed me the ability to try to fulfill my dream of building a stronger, healthier community.

What started as an outlet, has now grown into a worldwide movement that millions contribute to and benefit from. For me personally, a side effect of creating something with so much reach, came in the form of guilt. There are so many people who are equally affected and and dedicated to building the Fight To End Cancer. Everyone is a part of this fight!

Collectively, we've raised over $1.2 million in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, however the annual gala comes with a pretty hefty ticket price which can be out of reach for many people. High ticket prices contributes to how we are able to net such incredible donations for charity, however it became clear to me that other avenues for community involvement were necessecary to be fully inclusive.

I am commonly asked why I choose to “fight” cancer. The truth is, there are so many causes out there that need to be supported and one day I hope to fight for all of them. However, it is cancer that continues to attack those who mean the world to me – my community.

Over the past few years, it became my mission to find innovative ways to help those touched by cancer define what the Fight To End Cancer (FTEC) means to them personally. The Annual FTEC Gala showcases a group of 10 charity boxers who dedicate the better part of their year to literally step into the ring to fight cancer. BUT, what happens to the billions of others impacted by cancer, how can they join the fight if they're not boxing? This was a question that always found a way of making what I had built with FTEC feel incomplete.

I realize that EVERYONE needs the opportunity to weigh in on cancer! I'm now full speed ahead on the next project of innovating new ways to 'Fight To End Cancer' with our sponsors, supporters and families worldwide. Our newest initiative, The FTEC Ambassador Program, has seen everything from bootcamps to tie-clips, to an international photography exhibit, all in support of charity.

The moral of the story is that no success is greater than a future built on the shoulders of our community.

I've been fortunate to build a life that incorporates my community, and I'm grateful that every day presents us with new opportunities to combine passion with success.

I look forward to seeing you at my next event...
