PICTURE CARDS

I am biased.. I would be lying if I said as a facilitator I am not biased or I don’t have any favourites. At least amongst props I do have some ??
One of them are the picture cards. Also known as ‘Story cards’ or ‘Meta cards’ this is one prop I always carry in my kit.? They have turned out to be my saviours a lot of times. I can safely say, I can run an entire day’s workshop around most topics using just the picture cards.
I first happened to experience these cards about a decade ago during a session I was attending… and I was drawn to them the way a kid is drawn to chocolates. After initially using them only for icebreakers just the way I had seen it being used, I started experimenting with them & discovered that the possibilities are immense.
From MoodOMeter to closure tools, from convergence to divergence, to harvesting group wisdom, cross pollination these could be used across the program.
They offer great metaphorical value if you want the group to go within or even to explore outside.
Picture cards are amazing as they can be used across group demographics, across group size, session duration. I have used them in my virtual workshops too.
While I am biased towards them, picture cards can be absolutely neutral, triggering thoughts, perspectives, ideas, feelings…
I have witnessed groups breaking down moist eyed & groups having fits of laughter over these cards.
Do share your experiences, applications, variations around these plethora of possibilities.
Happy Learning
