Picking the Right Summer Internship for You
The Internship Program at METTLER TOLEDO
Applying for internships as a college student can be stressful. It can be difficult to understand the job description, let alone decide what kind of job you want, especially with a broad major. If you are looking for an internship, keep reading, as I share details from my summer 2022 internship.
My name is Kassie, and I am a Strategic Communications intern at 梅特勒 - 托利多 for the summer of 2022. I attend Ohio Northern University and my major is Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business. Like most of you, I knew that a summer internship was important to build my resume and gain work experience. After going through stressful applications, myself, I can proudly say that this internship program is something special and an experience that has helped me grow immensely.
My manager, Nyya J. Manion , oversees the entire program. Her intentionality for the program is impressive. She planned several events for all the interns, chosen by us through a survey she sent out, months before we even arrived! We had 20 interns for the summer, and I can confidently say that I was able to get to know each of them. In comparison to being the only intern in the company, or being one of hundreds, METTLER TOLEDO’s internship program is collaborative, tight knit, and cohesive. Even while working in different departments, I was still able to team up with other interns throughout the summer, as well as my mentor from the Early Career Program.
We had a variety of events this summer that created great opportunities for interns to get to know one another. We also met with business leaders across the company in small groups and presented what we learned to each other. Our end of summer presentations gave us the chance to reflect on our experience and share the skills we gained over the summer. We also planned a community service event, where we donated items and helped landscape at the NNEMAP Food Pantry in Columbus.?
At first, I just assumed that every internship included events, volunteerism, opportunities to present, and chances to work with leaders. I realize now that each piece of this program is strategic and unique. I am incredibly grateful to not only have been in the program but also played a role in strengthening it for the future. An internship at METTLER TOLEDO could change your life!
Don’t just take my word for it, hear from some of the other interns!
The Summer Internship Experience
Hailey, Value Stream Owner Intern: Hailey studies Industrial & Systems Engineering at Ohio University and was drawn to METTLER TOLEDO after meeting friendly and genuine recruiters at a career fair and having a great interview experience. Hailey noted how the internship program creates a sense of belonging for each intern, rather than being individual interns on separate teams. When asked about her achievements over the summer, here is what she said:
“I didn’t realize how big my impact would be, but learning how improving processes would greatly affect the company’s success made me feel important. I also enjoyed getting exposure to the corporate world before officially entering it.â€
Hogan, Finance Intern: Hogan attends Bowling Green State University where he double majors in Finance and Marketing. His experience is unique because he had a Marketing internship at METTLER TOLEDO last summer. He enjoyed the atmosphere where everyone wants to help.

“It’s enlightening to see what a financial job would be like in a company. Watching movies or shows growing up that showed office work always made me think it would be boring. Now, actually being part of the workplace as an intern, I can see the value and impact an individual can have.â€
Beto, Digital Business Services/Cybersecurity Intern
Beto studies Computer Science and Engineering at The Ohio State University. He has been able to learn a lot about new systems and processes within Cybersecurity. Another useful skill gained from the summer is having exposure to a professional company. He noticed that those on his team not only wanted to help him, but they wanted each intern to learn. When asked what he enjoys most about the internship program, he said:
“I enjoy the work that I do, and I liked forming strong relationships with the other interns.â€
Abby, Lab Marketing Intern
Abby is a Marketing student at Cedarville University and was attracted to the broad experience she could get in this role. She finds the internship program so special because of the camaraderie between interns, intentionality within the program, and the welcoming environment where others encourage growth and development. She gained an abundance of networking skills and was interested in hearing others experiences in the company. Abby shared with me what she enjoyed most this summer.
“The program is unique. I have not heard of many companies that truly value their interns and provide such a quality experience. Everyone provided guidance and opportunities to learn while still helping me complete meaningful work.†?
