Physics to Data Analytics

Physics to Data Analytics

I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to build a career by doing what I love. From a young age I’ve been focused and goal driven. When I had a vision for my professional future, I decided to make it happen. With experience in the academic setting and professional setting, I’ve now found what I love doing. I graduated with a Master's in Physics with Astronomy and Astrophysics major from the University of Delhi. I was an assistant professor at one of the universities in India and had everything that it took to be successful. Now, I am actively looking for Data Analyst role and learning more ways to solve problems by transforming insights gained from data into actionable recommendations.

you must be wondering, What made me change my field and bring an overwhelming shift in my career?

Having been asked by a number of people about my transition from academia — Physics to Data Analytics, I think, There are important "Why" and "How" concerns that need to be addressed if a physics professor wants to pursue a different professional path.

Being a physicist and astronomy geek, I have seen many datasets and analyzed them in order to solve problems. Also learned programming skills ( Python, SQL, MATLAB) throughout my career in physics to solve Numerical problems. For me, a lot, many things that I was already doing did match the exciting role of data analyst. when I was teaching, I found my role monotonous; after a year, I found myself self-repeating the same concepts, but more inclined toward programming and data analytics. I started watching lectures, seminars, and even started using data tools, this served as an introduction to machine learning and big data analytics for me. I Collected, managed, and analyzed data on performance of students using Excel. Used my data driven problem solving skills to improve overall performance of students by 20%. I dove headfirst into the worlds of machine learning and data analytics because I enjoyed it! I have many analytical and statistical skills from my career in physics and many I have learned after making this change. I joined Big Data Analytics program in Georgian College, Canada to get certified as a Data Analyts. I still learn new knowledge everyday with my growing passion in Data Analytics field.

To be honest, this decision was not easy, and I believe if you want to bring about a big change, it takes a heap of courage and persistence.

I’m thrilled to say that I’ve learned from so many trained professionals in my field, but I know that I still have so much to learn from others in the industry. I’m a hard worker, a team player and excited to see what projects could benefit from my unique skill set. I’d love to chat with you about how we might work together in the future.
