The world is witnessing lots of myths about health, and higher executives are more prone to disorders for a myriad of reasons. Bi-Proficiency is a campaign to bridge the gaps and fix all the loopholes in this regard.

The mere mention of the term leader automatically gives a short glimpse of the traits like integrity, strategic thinking, decision-making, confidence, energy, and other related aspects. And to be honest, all these really hold pivotal importance for leadership.????
But in this overly competitive world, we all have forgotten a very important aspect- Physical Fitness. Though not just for leadership health is vital for all aspects of life but if you are at the helm of an organization then focusing on health gets more important.?
In our previous discussions we have mentioned this several times but it is still worth repeating that intellectuals also need to stay fit for more productivity. The brain works better for people who exercise and this is for the fact that aerobic activity boosts the size of the hippocampus which is the area of the brain that is involved with memory and learning.
We CXOs are required to craft the most effective strategies and are answerable to the repercussions. We have to make important decisions, and for this, we are required to clear our thought processes. Exercising improves blood circulation and enhances the oxygen level both in the body & brain. And this translates to better clear creative thinking. This improved thought process not only helps in solving complex quagmires of quandaries but also helps come up with impressive ideas and in the agile analysis of the continuous workflows.
Physical fitness is also a key factor in maintaining higher energy levels throughout the day. And the relevance of this factor needs no glorification!
At the physiological level, consistently involving in intense physical activities gives more than just toned muscles. Risk factors like cholesterol, higher blood pressure, and increased sugar levels are also decreased.?
Stress is synonymous with the post of higher executives (check here why? ) and is a silent killer, a detriment of productivity. Exercising is also the best stress management therapy as the endorphins are released that not only help in mood elation but also boost self-confidence.
Those who exercise also sleep better. A well-rested body is more energetic, and happy, and doesn’t know the mid-afternoon slump.
Let’s move further now at the organizational level.
The CXOs believing in the idea of physical fitness can lead better through their own example and model healthy behavior. Employees will sense the spirit and will follow the suit! And this way the whole organization is going to be motivated.?
Such a motivating work environment will reap the following very important benefits.?
When the employees are feeling better they are going to be more productive. Most of the time in many organizations (during the consultations & fault-finding sessions) just to attend the working hours employees are only physically present there. This could be due to lower energy levels or illness or some state of mind. And this (presenteeism- a new word for it) is a great reason for lower productivity. All this will be eliminated if the workforce is fit & fine!

2.??Boosted Morale
Physically fit & active employees are not only going to deliver more & better & faster but will also ooze a positive & energetic vibe all around. This is going to get them a better appreciation, and we all love it. This appreciation makes the employees feel valued at work. And the appreciation from the CXOs makes them feel better connected and aligned with the organizational goals. And this boosted morale has been found to positively influence the bottom line in my personal experience of 14 years.?
3.??Positivity & Loyalty?
Exercising boosts mood and would it not be easier and more attractive to work with one whose mood is great? And when employees are in better coordination among themselves then there is better bonding and greater connection in the projects. All this leads to better loyalty toward the organization.?
4.?Employee Retention
It is an indirect benefit or a perk for the organization investing in the wellness of their employees and promoting a healthier workplace. If special assistance in any form in terms of health development and well-being is provided then employees tend to stay in the organization more. Such perks also make the organization more attractive to outside talents.?
Therefore fitness has a direct impact on the CXOs’ abilities and makes them better leaders. Moreover, a healthier workforce impacts the bottom line positively, which is also a direct requirement from the CXO’s end.
Well, it is a long discussion and here we talked about the big picture only. The direct correlation between physical fitness and leadership is still pending, which will be concluded in the upcoming letters.?

1 年Beautifully presented. You highlighted the importance of health which is ignored by most of the people in search of materialistic possessions. Health has a direct impact on everything that you do. Your health is the driver of your passion. Unless you don't experience trinity feeling what you do or how much ever you do won't result in completeness.
