Physical crash tests x virtual crash tests
It’s notorious the technological jump within we had un the last years, practically all of the fields of knowledge advanced as a concept as technology on the last times. In agriculture we have drones collecting dimensions e issuing reports about the use of cultivation area and topography in a totally automatic way, this without speak about the autonomous agricultural vehicles; in the mining market, we have mining trucks with a load capacity of more than 160 tons 100% autonomous during the mining phase, where the driver is necessary only to park inside the repair area due security reasons. In the medical area, we have a virtual reality beyond the already surgical robots that amplify the precision of the surgeons; and the examples don’t finish…
Today I’m coming to bring a “curiosity” of automotive engineering. I believe that most part of people knows the famous “crash tests” which are very known in TV programs as in thousands of Youtube videos. Exist currently various institutes that apply safety automotive validations with these kinds of tests which the most famous is Euro NCAP; although of being a European institute already has bases in all markets as example LATIN NCAP. In some countries, the final customers usually consult the safety ratings as criteria of the decision to buy a vehicle.
But the question is: “How one OEM (automaker) sends the vehicles to do a crash test without even have a preview about the safety level?” The subject isn’t like this; currently, all OEMs already study them models in virtual crash tests which has an assertiveness of 99%, in some companies 100% in comparison with physical evidence. Only due to motives of homologation in standards of each country that the virtual reports aren’t accepted to the said homologation, where only reports by physical evidence are accepted.
The picture of this article follows an example to show how much a virtual test gets closer to a physical situation, a little note, this test was applied in 2017

4 年It's unbelievable how accurate the simulation test can be. Is there any drawback in using the virtual, comparing with the physical test?
