5 - A 5 Minute Read for you and your Business

I did a poll just recently on my FB wall around a phrase I’ve always found contentious and the results were pretty validating.

Question: “When I say X, what comes to mind?”

Answers:?

“Cut throat. "I don't care about you or how this will impact you. The company is all I care for in this decision."

“Someone screwing over someone else”

“Someone switching off all emotion”

“Taking advantage of someone for your gains”

“Narcissist”

What was the phrase in question? ?

“It’s just business” ??

Now don’t get me wrong there is solid wisdom is finding a way to detach your self from the cut and thrust of running a business.

It is not uncommon for someone’s cash flow to be in direct correlation with the state of their mental health for example.? ?

Getting distance between money and your self worth is bloody crucial.

BUT..when this phrase is uttered it tends to be in defence of a move that in any other circumstance would be considered unkind or inhumane.

And the thing is, business is personal.

It’s an exchange between people.

In a kingdom business, it’s not just personal but spiritual - in all that we do we are called to emulate Christ and his way of operating - the standards are high.

I had a text just this afternoon from my favourite barista who had overheard my chat in the cafe about how much his opening up shop had meant to my life.

Every day pretty much I pop into this little cafe, have a delicious drink, see the same regulars, little kids come over especially to see my Dog, we learn about each other’s lives, celebrate wins and commiserate around challenges.

It just so happens to be a caf?.

The same barrista had said his dream had to be to create just such a place that people could feel at home in.

Business is never just business, at least when it’s done well.

So if you want to just go and make a shed load of money no matter the means - fair play.?

We just don’t need to be friends.

Or if you see business as a way to get one up on someone else, smash your competition or exploit resources of people to make you feel like a big deal - I’ve met people like you and I pray you don’t come unstuck. ?

We equally don’t need to be friends.

But if you want a business that:

• Is something more;
• Has God at the centre;
• Obsesses over helping people;
• Makes good money and makes difference;
• Brings peace of mind to your family and enhances people’s lives

Then let’s legit be besties.

Business is a spiritual game, just so happens to be won by numbers.

It’s a mission field and a vocation.

It’s also better in the right company.

So if this IS you, then let’s go on that journey together?
