Photography's Next Chapter: AI's Role in the One-Person Visual Studio

-- Don Giannatti

Ah, the age-old image of the photographer – hunched behind a lens and tripod. It brings back memories, doesn't it?

But, my visual friends, times are a-changin'. Today's photographers are stepping into bigger shoes. We're no longer just making pictures; we're crafting entire visual narratives.

Enter the game-changer: AI is tossing us the assist we didn't know we needed.

Beyond the Click: Crafting with AI by Our Side

We've always prided ourselves on our eye – that keen sense of capturing a the light, the composition, the moment.

But today? Clients need more. They want stories, motion, depth, and a more than a sprinkle of pizzazz. And while the purist in me took a minute to warm up to it, I've seen what AI can do.

Yeah, there's the automatic editing, cookie-cutter designs, and cringy text.

But this stuff can really enhance your visual library folks.

The Portfolio Revolution: Where Craft Meets Code

Imagine a portfolio that's got the "you" touch – classic photos, edgy designs, gripping narratives. Throw in some new visually exciting images, like stop motion, video clips, cinemagraphs, and presentations that refine and elevate every piece, making it pop just a bit more. Utilizing AI in the production saves you time, and when you save time you can make more stuff.

I'm not saying you should relinquish your unique touch to technology; I'm saying that you may use this new stuff to enhance it.

We're moving past 'best shots' and diving deep into the realm of AI-augmented communication.

(I need to be clear here: I am not a fan of MidJourney, and "generated" art. I will most likely never use it for reasons that are my own. However, I have no qualms in using some of the tools available to me to help my clients sell more stuff. If AI is there as a helper/partner, I am fine with it. But I remain the sole creator.)

Marrying the Craft with Cutting-Edge Tech

"I’m a photographer, not a techie," yeah, I hear ya.

But here's the challenge: clients need more than a photo, and we will either be dlivering more than a photo, or we will watch others - maybe with less talent than us - deliver more, much more, than a photo.

Being able to do more means more client possibilities. And more opportunities turns into more work, more resources, and more income.

In a Nutshell: AI is Robin to our Batman

The lone wolf photographer image? It’s nostalgic, but it's time for an upgrade if you are seeking a viable, sustainable career.

Enter the AI-boosted, multifaceted visual entrepreneur.

We're on the brink of a creative explosion, and with AI by our side, the sky isn’t the limit – it’s just the beginning.
