Photography Tips - Using a Window or a Door as a Light Source.
Any window or door that doesn’t have the sun streaming directly into it can work as a great indoor light source for portrait and product photography.
The light coming in from the window is the strongest at the very beginning and starts tapering as we increase the distance of the subject from the window. This can be used to your benefit. For a more dramatic look with a higher contrast in highlights and shadows, you can place the subject close to the window / door. This creates stronger highlights and darker, well defined shadows.
For soft even light, the subject can be moved a little further from the light source (window / door). As you move the subject away from the light source, the light will start to wrap around the subject which in turn decreases the contrast in highlights and shadows.
