Photography on location
Richard Battye
Advertising / Commercial / Creative Arts Photographer. Lecturer, mentor. Lighting workshops and studio hire.
Photography on location, is something I do around 50% of the time, all over the UK and sometimes abroad, the rest being in my Birmingham studio. There is always a different challenge as there are often so many variables that can dictate the circumstances of the final photography, the main one being ; light. It is this slightly unpredictable nature of working in someone else's workplace that I enjoy. Last week I was with Adrian Reynolds a talented designer and metalsmith and I took some shots in his workshop which when factoring in ; daylight, halogen lighting, a heater, my flash and finally a welding torch..there were 5 different sources of light working together. My job is then to decide how I use all these variables to work together to create the final photograph..oh and there is usually little or no time! All part of the fun.
