Photography of inspirational Female Founders

Some female photographers specialise in personal brand photography for women in business. I enjoy photographing businesses, regardless of the leader’s gender. However, I have photographed some inspiring women in my time.

In recognition of this, and International Women’s Day, I posted photos of different female founders. ?It was well received so in this newsletter, I wanted to share a bit more about a few of them and to demonstrate what can be done with photography to visually communicate unique qualities and messages.

I met Jade many years ago when she was a rising star in the wills and probate legal arena. She was already winning awards and accolades - she clearly had a mission. Recently she took the leap to start her own law firm, niching into private client work.

She has set out to create a law firm that is different. Their mission is to be a progressive, inclusive and highly specialised law firm, focused on supporting individual clients in all their personal matters.

Jade's drive is astonishing and the name of her business shows the strong ethos that she carries into the company, Circe, the acronym of which hails their values: Courage, Integrity, Respect, Charity, Equity

I created personal branding photography for Jade, which needed to be diverse. She has many facets to her role which, in addition to her client facing work, include being a Board Director for an external organisation, a Judge for industry awards, speaking at conferences and creating podcasts, amongst other things!

The business has a number of people within it and each needed profile pictures, together with team photos, and images of them all at work, to be used on the website and in social media.

So you can see that we packed a day of photography and achieved a great image bank for them to use in PR, social media, website and beyond.

I met Ruth and the senior leadership team just after Covid, when they were based in Walton on Thames. They were all really worried about having their photos taken, not only because of Covid, but because it put them far out of their comfort zone. So Ruth stepped up to be the first in front of my camera, showing her leadership colours and smoothing the way for those who followed to have more confidence and less fear of the process. It may sounds like a small thing but it was actually huge and I was extremely grateful.

The business that she and her co founder, Matt, have grown is extra-ordinary. They have gone from start up to scale up rapidly, moving their operation to central London and winning awards along the way. They have received recognition from Best Worksplaces for Women, Well Being and Consulting/Professional Services. Ruth champions this.

I have photographed them regularly over the past few years, and their culture remains the same. They are a totally inclusive workplace, with a strong community ethos. They clearly retain staff as I enjoy that when I return the faces remain the same and everyone is super friendly.

Ruth has a vision of where she wants the business to go, and I love her focus. Crucially, she understands that despite being essentially a tech business, brand is key to success. She also knows that photography goes hand in hand with brand and marketing, and so I’ve worked with their Marketing Director to create bespoke photography for their website and for PR/pitch deck marketing material.

Creating personal branding photos of the founders has been fun…of course they are not fans of having their photo taken, but led by Ruth they gamely get into the spirit of it and we have been able to create a bank of photos for them to use. I believe these images reflect their working relationship, their personalities, and their drive.

Paula runs a marketing agency, and we have worked with mutual clients over the past five years. Like many agency owners, she likes to work with trusted professionals to service her clients' marketing needs. I’m honoured to be one of those and we creatively collaborate on shoots ranging in sector from the gardening industry, to professional services and even luxury jewellery.

Paula focuses on partnership with her clients and those she works with, which is refreshing. Her professionalism and industry knowledge is huge and I believe her clients are lucky to have found her. She totally understands the marketing business and how to use photography to her clients’ best advantage.? The fact that she develops a brief first but is open to a creative discussion with me as the photographer really works for me, as my skill is to interpret a brief and translate it into a visual language. Together we work out how, where and with whom we can create the visual marketing collateral that her clients need to support a successful marketing strategy and campaign.

I’m grateful that she allows me to work the magic of photography in my unique way, and I’m inspired by her generosity of advice and time that she gives to me to impart her knowledge, and I’ve seen her give to others.

I’ve done a few shoots for Paula’s business over the years, and as her business has grown, that has included her team. Not only is the business led strongly by Paula, thereby requiring great personal branding photography, but her new website needed to reflect the growing team and how they work.

We went through the same process we would have for one of her clients and photographed in various locations, with multiple people, to create an image bank for them to use on the website and social media.
