Photographic Journeys into Japan's Urban Nightscape
From neon-lit avenues to quiet backstreets, Japan's bustling cities transform after the sun sets. At Japan Night Sights, a creative collaboration between Kay Keizo Yamamoto of Bluish Media, known for expertise in digital media content, and myself explore their nighttime allure.
Our website is more than just a collection of images; it's a narrative of nocturnal travels across Japan, told through the lenses of our cameras and accompanying bilingual captions in English and Japanese.
Initiated at the start of this year, Japan Night Sights was a venture rooted in creativity and enjoyment. After ironing out initial challenges and finalizing our website's design, we're excited to finally unveil our project to the world.
Night photography, a niche yet profoundly expressive medium, allows us to diverge from conventional paths like wedding or tourist photography. While these genres are undoubtedly valuable, my heart lies in capturing a different aspect of Kyoto, where I've lived for over two decades. This city, steeped in 1,200 years of history, presents a mesmerizing blend of the past and present—a fusion often overshadowed in mainstream travel narratives.

This combination is most striking at night when the city's lights reveal a different facet of Kyoto. It's this unique perspective that fuels my passion for night photography, despite its lesser commercial appeal. If not for this genre, my enthusiasm for photography might have waned.
Japan Night Sights is our platform to share this passion. Kay and I invite you to experience a new perspective on familiar cities like Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Sapporo. Our goal is to eventually expand our coverage to even more locations, continually offering fresh and captivating views.
We invite you to visit Japan Night Sights and immerse yourself in the nocturnal beauty of this country's cities. Whether you're a photography enthusiast, a lover of Japanese culture, or simply seeking a unique perspective on travel, our website promises a journey that transcends the conventional.
Visit Japan Night Sights and join us in exploring the unseen splendors of Japan after sunset. Your journey into the night awaits!

1 年Nice. Checking it out night. Some nice work there. For me the best shot of Toji has always been on that road. But, for my tastes, across the road looking straight across at the tower. This was a 4mins 30secs exposure back in 2016.
Cool! There is something very special about photographing Toyko at night. I remember shooting the neon lights of Shibuya (on film!) when I first came to Japan. This is a set of Tokyo night photos from a couple of years ago. https://tonymcnicolphotography.com/galleries/tokyo-nightcrawler-2022/

1 年Loved the post about your car--both the photo and the caption ??
