Photo Restoration
Photo restoration wasn't something I had given much thought to if I'm honest. I am keen to promote myself as a photo editor but restorer?
I visited a very dear friend of mine and noticed she had a small but very badly faded picture of her Grandmother sitting proudly on the shelf. When I quizzed her on it she said she had had it for over 30 years and it was the only picture she had of her. She had clearly got a very close emotional attachment to the pic. Sadly it had spent a lot of its time outside of a frame and had been damaged too. So what could I do to bring this picture back to life?
I invested in a fantastic Professional Scanner from Epson and scanned the image into my iMac. From there I set about restoring the image in Adobe Photoshop.
I had asked the client for an idea of colouring so that I'd have some idea of how it should look. By using 'Layers' the 'Blend tool' and the 'Clone tool' I was able to transform this......
into this......
Needless to say I was happy with the result but the client was moved to tears as the image was 'exactly as I remember her' My whole philosophy in business can be summed up in that sentence, once I'm able to put a smile on one person's face then it'll have been worth it.
I guess I'll add another 'Skill' to my profile now and look forward to bringing more neglected photographs back to their former glory.
