Are you a small business? You are not immune to a cyber-attack, unfortunately. You may have seen the recent media attention around cyber security breaches and thought it doesn’t affect you. That isn’t true. Small businesses are often the intentional target of cybercriminals. Why? Because small businesses don’t always take the appropriate measures to protect their business, assuming they don’t need to.
It’s not the season of glad tidings and goodwill if you’re a cybercriminal. Think ‘the season of phishing’ instead, when cybercriminals ramp up their efforts to target and exploit vulnerabilities in business systems. As many businesses close for a few days over the holiday period, breaches can go unnoticed until major damage has been done.
Why target a smaller business? Surely there is more to be had from a larger corporation? While that may be true, smaller businesses are an easier target and therefore it’s a numbers game. The rewards may not be higher, but there are more of them. Why bother with a big corporation with all its cyber security in place when you can target a smaller organisation that doesn’t?
It is for this reason we wanted to share some tips on improving your cybersecurity. In particular, to ensure your staff does not unwittingly?let cyber criminals onto your network.
