The Philosophy Of Testing
Today I want to share with you the #1 thing that has been consistently making me level up for the past 5 years.
It’s what I call “The Philosophy Of Testing.â€
But before I get into it, let me just tell you about how I came to adopt this philosophy for myself.
Back when I was 18 years old, I went to college for Marketing and Advertising. If I’m being honest, I didn’t learn all that much other than the basics or the foundation.
However, it made me interested in the world of marketing and advertising. More specifically, digital marketing.
This was when I started to take a deeper dive into online marketing like Facebook and Google ads. As you probably know, this isn’t a skill that’s exactly easy to hone. You need to stay updated and you need to have a true interest that will keep you hooked every day.
That wasn’t my case. This was not my passion at all. Nonetheless, it was digital marketing that introduced me to the practice of “testing.â€
You see, most people think you create an ad, and you put it out and you either make money and keep running it or you lose money and make a new ad.
That’s only true if you’re an amateur.
Pros do what is called “A/B Testing.â€
What the big boys do is create one ad and then, from that ad, they create multiple iterations of that same ad but with small differences.
Let’s say they have 10 different versions of the same ad. The next step is to go ahead and run the ad.
But not with a big budget, no.
It’s with a lower budget.
Why?
Because the goal of these 10 different versions is to TEST the ad creatives. Not make money.
They could even go deeper into it and test the 10 different versions on a few different target audiences as well.
And then, once they find the winner, that’s where they put in their actual budget.
So, yeah. Advertising is kind of a guessing game sometimes and the best way to guess right without wasting too much money is exactly the strategy I just told you about.
In other words, when advertisers are unsure of something, they don’t really gamble on a guess.?They just test it out and they let the numbers tell them the facts.
Why does this matter to you?
Because this is exactly how you should live your life.
If you’re confused, I have a really simple example for you.
Imagine a man called Joe who is 35 years old.
Joe has never really minded his physical health too much. But turning 35 changed that.
He decided it was time to make a dramatic lifestyle shift.
He weighs around 100kg (220lbs) and he has decided that he wants to make it 70kg (154lbs).
Now, what happens to most people on a journey like Joe’s is that they will start to go to the gym, maybe get a workout plan from one of the trainers, and then pick a diet and those are all the changes they make.

Then, 3 months go by and the results are very small. Too small to motivate them to keep going.
At this point, most people’s reaction would be “Well, I tried. I made a change, I’ve been sacrificing for 3 months with barely anything to show for it. I’m done. If this is how it’s gonna be, I give up.â€
This is the usual journey of a failed attempt to have a healthier lifestyle.
HOWEVER.
If any of these people would live by the philosophy of testing, then they would have a completely different journey.
Before they would even start, their expectations would’ve been completely different.
Instead of thinking something along the lines of “Ok, I’m gonna go to the gym and eat better and I’m gonna see awesome changes in my body,†they would understand that it’s not so simple.
They would understand that each person’s body is different.
More importantly, they would understand that changing your body can be a complex process sometimes, so they should not assume they know what works.
They would go into their new journey with a mindset that sounds something like this:
“I’ve never tried to lose weight before. I’ve never tried to change my body before. So, this means I actually have NO IDEA about what works best for me. This means I have a long journey ahead of me. And it means I need to try different methods until I figure out what works. I need to hire a personal trainer and then change my personal trainer if I’m not getting results. If I try a carnivore diet and it doesn’t work, then maybe I need to try a keto or vegan diet. Whatever it is, I just have to try different things until I figure out what it is that works FOR ME, specifically. I am focused on my goal and I am aware that I don’t know what could work and the first focus is to just figure that part out.â€
This is exactly the mindset that is most likely to get you to achieve your goals.
It comes from a place of humbleness.
It comes from a place of curiosity, rather than entitlement or false certainty.
I use the testing mantra for everything in my life.
If I’m not sure of something, I never assume to know the answer. I simply know I have to test it to confirm.
This is what will work for you.
Can’t sleep?
Test different solutions.
Can’t pass a test?
Test different solutions.
Can’t find a date?
Again, test different solutions.
Whatever your problem may be, there most likely is a solution out there.
You just have to keep testing potential solutions until you figure out exactly what works best?for you.
Never stop hustling & never stop dreaming,
