PHILLIPSON SETS OUT FIRST STEPS IN LONG-TERM REFORM OF EDUCATION SYSTEM - STEVE CHALKE ANNOUNCED AS SUMMIT KEYNOTE SPEAKER

We are delighted to announce that Steve Chalke OBE, Founder of the Oasis Charitable Trust, will be a keynote speaker at our National Education Summit?where he will be talking about 'A Manifesto for Hope – Principles and Practice for Transforming the Lives of Children and Young People'.

This year’s National Education Summit takes place at a pivotal moment, as the new government evaluates the reforms needed to foster a more creative and inclusive learning environment, the Summit invites you to actively contribute to this crucial dialogue. Your voice can help drive the changes that will define the educational experience for generations to come.

This week the Secretary of State for Education, the Rt Hon Bridget Phillipson MP,?outlined the 'key first steps in our long-term strategy to reform our education system'.?Skills England?is a new arms-length body to tackle skills shortages and support sustained economic growth. Bridget Phillipson goes on to say in the report that:

'By setting out our vision to meet skills needs, the report invites members across the skills system to use key data insights to inform, challenge and build towards a responsive and collaborative skills system, aiming to align with the future Industrial Strategy.'

A recent report by City & Guilds titled 'Making Skills Work'?calls for Government and Skills England to 'learn from past mistakes and put long-term plans into action for lifelong learning and productivity' and Kirstie Donnelly, MBE, CEO of City & Guilds, said:

'We have a once in a generation opportunity to clean the slate of skills policy for good and create a holistic, long-term strategy for uplifting our economy through skills provision that works.'

At the FED we welcome the focus on long-term strategic thinking across the education sector. As you will know our 4-year consultation sets our a governance model that will support long-term planning. This includes a focus on?solutions that look through a 1, 2,?5, and 10 year lens and a governance model that: adopts a?Long-Term Planning Framework; establishes an?Education Council; introduces a?Chief Education Officer and Associated Office; creates a?National Education Assembly.

In last weeks newsletter we shared our Summit Programme. This week we are delighted to confirm our list of Summit Speakers?in the next section of the newsletter. We look?forward to seeing you our?4th National Education Summit - First Steps for Change?and hearing from the impressive range of speakers.
