Community foundations are the fastest growing form of philanthropy in the world. As well as offering a smart giving model for immediate and future gifts, Auckland Foundation seeks to provide strategic leadership to effect long-term, transformational change in our communities.

Collectively the community foundation network in Aotearoa has in excess of $230 million under management with double that in pledged gifts and with strong growth year on year. There is enormous potential to develop strategic philanthropy in Tāmaki Makaurau to create a truly sustainable, equitable, prosperous, healthy and safe society.

Against this backdrop, Auckland Foundation is seeking a Philanthropy Director to work closely with the Board of Trustees and General Manager to grow the number of donors and clients using Auckland Foundation’s services, particularly Donor Advised Funds, that result in new donors giving, primarily, to Tāmaki Makaurau.

The Philanthropy Director will work on growing the profile of the Foundation and increasing the number of generous Aucklanders using Auckland Foundation as their platform. Auckland Foundation offers an alternative to establishing an individual charitable structure while ensuring the philanthropist remains in control of their charitable purpose in perpetuity and the giving and distribution decisions. The Philanthropy Director will also fundraise for the growth of Auckland Foundation purpose-based priorities.

Reporting directly to the Board Chair, the Philanthropy Director will position the Foundation as a key partner and service provider for philanthropists of all sizes and structure, with a priority to grow the number of endowment funds held as sub-funds under Auckland Foundation’s Trust Deed and to fundraise for the Foundations purpose-based priorities.

The Philanthropy Director will be a member of the Auckland Foundation’s Board level Fundraising Committee which is responsible for setting and implanting the strategic fundraising activity.

The ideal candidate will be a proud Aucklander with proven success in major gifts fundraising and a strategic thinker with strong financial literacy. You will also be an outstanding communicator and possess the diplomacy, perspective and credibility necessary to establish and build relationships and influence a range of stakeholders including family trusts, major donors, bequestors, corporates and other charities.
