Philadelphia Alpha Leadership Academy- supports the African-American Musuem of Philadelphia for Juneteenth
I am super excited for the June meeting for the Alpha Leadership Academy. Our young men will be this Saturday (June 18, 2016) at the African-American Museum of Philadelphia.
June 18th holds a celebrated position in American History. Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is a holiday that commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas in June 1865, and more generally the emancipation of African-American slaves throughout the Confederate South. The young men will be participating in a community service project to help promote the occasion.
From the ED of The African American Museum
"The African American Museum in Philadelphia is honored to have the young men of the ALA to serve as ambassadors for the upcoming Juneteenth celebration here at the museum on Saturday, June 18th. The ALA will perform the tasks of greeters, production assistants and general support for the museum."
This is just one of the ways in which we seek to instill the importance of culture, history, and service to the community. For more information on how you can get your students involved with the ALA, please feel free to email us at:
