Phil was right!
McDowall Company
We are committed to providing our customers with quality solutions and services for their roofing, and HVAC needs.
Punxsutawney Phil told us that Spring would arrive early this year, and it looks like he is right! In Minnesota, we didn’t even have a winter, but who is complaining? I suppose that some of the hearty would like a little more snow and the ice fisherman would like more ice, but it is nice to have a break after last years record snows. I say, let’s take advantage of the nice weather, next year mother nature may have her revenge!? ?

Challenges yield positive change.
Over the past four years the HVAC industry has experienced significant changes as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.?
1. Focus on Indoor Air Quality (IAQ): HVAC professionals have been instrumental in implementing solutions such as enhanced filtration, improved ventilation, and air purification technologies to mitigate the risk of virus transmission indoors.?
2. Upgraded Filtration Systems: High-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters and other advanced filtration systems have gained prominence as effective tools for capturing airborne particles, including viruses and other contaminants.?
3. Enhanced Ventilation Strategies: Proper ventilation is essential for diluting indoor air contaminants and reducing the risk of airborne transmission. HVAC professionals have helped facilities optimize ventilation systems, adjust airflow rates, and incorporate outdoor air exchange to improve indoor air quality.?
4. Deployment of Air Purification Technologies: Technologies such as UV germicidal irradiation, bipolar ionization, and photocatalytic oxidation have been deployed in HVAC systems to deactivate or remove airborne pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus. HVAC companies have assisted in integrating these technologies into existing HVAC systems or installing standalone air purification units.?
5. Remote Monitoring and Control Solutions: The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of remote monitoring and control solutions for HVAC systems, allowing facility managers to monitor indoor air quality parameters, adjust system settings, and troubleshoot issues remotely. HVAC companies have offered these advanced technologies to enhance system efficiency and minimize onsite visits.?
6. Educational Efforts and Training: HVAC professionals have played a crucial role in educating the public and building occupants about the importance of indoor air quality and the measures taken to reduce the spread of COVID-19 indoors. Training programs have been developed to equip HVAC technicians with the knowledge and skills needed to implement IAQ solutions effectively.?
Overall, the challenges of the last four years are likely to have a lasting impact on how HVAC systems are designed, installed, and maintained in the future.

?Make sure your roof is ready!?
It appears that Spring will arrive early this year, so it’s a great time to ensure your commercial roof is ready for the warm season. Here are some steps businesses can take to ready their commercial roofs for the warmer months:?
·??? Inspect Roofing Materials: Conduct a thorough inspection of the roof surface, checking for any signs of damage, such as cracks, tears, or loose seams. Addressing these issues early can prevent more extensive damage during the summer.?
·??? Clean Gutters and Drains: Clear any debris, leaves, or other obstructions from gutters, downspouts, and roof drains to ensure proper water drainage. Clogged drainage systems can lead to water pooling on the roof, which can cause leaks and structural damage.?
·??? Check Roof Flashing: Inspect roof flashing around vents, skylights, and other penetrations to ensure they are secure and sealed properly. Damaged or deteriorated flashing should be repaired or replaced to prevent water infiltration.?
·??? Trim Overhanging Branches: Trim back any overhanging branches or vegetation near the roof to prevent debris buildup and minimize the risk of branches damaging the roof surface during summer storms.?
·??? Inspect Sealants and Caulking: Check the condition of sealants and caulking around roof penetrations, edges, and seams. Replace any deteriorated sealants to maintain a watertight seal and prevent moisture intrusion.?
·??? Evaluate Insulation and Ventilation: Assess the insulation and ventilation system to ensure they are functioning effectively. Proper insulation and ventilation help regulate indoor temperatures and reduce energy costs during the summer months.?
·??? Schedule Professional Inspection and Maintenance: Consider hiring a professional roofing contractor to conduct a comprehensive inspection and maintenance service. Experienced professionals can identify potential issues early and perform necessary repairs or maintenance tasks to prolong the lifespan of the roof.?
·??? Plan for Roof Coating or Restoration: If the roof surface is showing signs of wear or aging, consider applying a reflective roof coating or performing a roof restoration to improve energy efficiency and extend the roof's lifespan.?
By taking proactive steps to prepare the commercial roof for summer during the early spring, businesses can minimize the risk of costly repairs and ensure the roof remains in optimal condition to withstand the challenges of the warmer months.?
