WHAT SUBJECT I’M CURIOUS ABOUT
Last week we kicked off the subject of Facilitation Mastery by explaining the importance it carries and defining exactly what we mean by this term. This week we will dive into the first of the five phases that we explore during our Facilitation Mastery programs.?
You may recall that we listed the five phases as -?Preparation, Open, Body, Close, and Follow-up.
Today we will unpack the essence of "Preparing to Facilitate." So many quotes that we could cite here, but one of the most commonly stated is "By Failing to Prepare, You are Preparing to Fail" which is credited to Benjamin Franklin.
So what exactly are we referring to when we lecture on this topic? In our upcoming 2-day Facilitation Mastery Challenge we introduce a Leadership case study where Tom Murphy, Functional Head of a large global manufacturing company is faced with the challenge of Facilitating a major company event.
Here is our opening statement from the workbook.
"Preparing for facilitating a workshop or event is critical to ensure a successful and impactful session. Adequate preparation allows the facilitator to define clear objectives, structure content, and create engaging activities tailored to participants’ needs.
It enables the facilitator to anticipate potential challenges, establish a conducive environment, and gather relevant materials and resources. Through preparation, the facilitator can confidently lead discussions, manage time effectively, and address diverse perspectives.
Ultimately, a well-prepared workshop enhances learning outcomes, fosters active participation, and maximizes the potential for meaningful exchange, empowering participants to apply newfound knowledge and skills in their real-world contexts."
So hopefully based on this opening intro, the importance of your preparation has become much clearer. If you have an interest in learning more on this topic then why not join us for the Challenge? You can find more information from the above link.
Next week we'll address Phase 2 of Facilitation Mastery (only days before the challenge commences).
