Pharaoh and God
In this piece, I would like to delve into the contrast between Pharaoh (representing human governments) and God (Heavenly realm). Humans like to believe they wield the ultimate power to decide affairs on Earth without extraterrestrial influence and ultimately play the role of God on Earth. This is clear when referencing Moses’s encounter with Pharaoh as God gave his command to “let my people go”. Pharaoh presumed he owned the land and people (including labour) and any other activity concerning the governance of a clear and distinct territory. This encounter between Pharaoh and God with Moses acting as an intermediary serves to showcase God’s preeminence over the affairs of men.
Pharaoh challenged God’s authority to call the shots in his own land and questioned God’s identity by uttering “Who is this God”. God revealed himself to Pharaoh experientially by taking control over the earthly elements in Pharaoh’s own land. He turned the water into streams of blood, caused locusts to envelope the land, struck the people with a rather inconvenient covering of boils and ultimately took the breath of the firstborns in Egypt; but not before leaving us a picture of foreshadowing Christ by the sprinkling of blood on the Hebrew’s doorposts. The Governments of the world should come to realize that God wields the ultimate power over his Earth and gives power to whomever he wills.
