PGL Updates
?? Welcome to our 7th edition of PGL’s newsletter. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? We’ve been busy beavering away ??, that’s for sure. Our new centre, if we can still call it new, is ticking along nicely. We’ve had several visitors over the last few weeks and are excited to announce a few new partnerships in the coming weeks that will help us provide the best training to our clients across the UK.
?? Our consultants have been out conducting opening meetings and Health and Safety audits on behalf of our clients to ensure they stay abreast of compliance and implement best practice.
?? Are you looking for training space? We have some great facilities to hire out in the central area of Bham – an in-demand sought-after space! ?? Give us a shout to discuss further. We’ll also promote your courses and help to fill them with our client base.
?? One of our clients tasked us to build a bespoke programme of training for them. The first cohort will attend this new course next week and we were thrilled to see such a large contractor taking further steps to invest in their Supervisors progression. It's so refreshing, and we’re sure this purpose-built programme will be well received by all!
Need help designing and developing a course? We have a track record of developing bespoke products with ease, clarity, and quality – call us to learn more. ??0121 240 0375
?? Due to our expertise, we have a leading Awarding Body visiting us in the coming weeks to learn more about training and regulated qualifications that is outside of their usual remit. Here at PGL, we always look to build great relations with Awarding Bodies and other providers. We’re happy to share our best practice and likewise, are always willing and looking to upskill and evolve our own service provision.
?? We had an audit a couple of weeks ago from CITB, which is always a pleasure. We absolutely smashed it. We were so proud when our systems were labelled as ‘fantastic’. It demonstrates how hard our team is working to provide world class tuition.
?? Keep your eyes peeled for further expansion news that’s coming soon. We can’t say too much at this stage, but we’re excited about the potential!?
?? We’ve recently been delving more into AI and understanding the effects on potential plagiarism and use in the NVQ process and specific courses where AI may be used that isn’t the delegate’s own work. Particularly during assessment. Our findings allowed us to start embedding robust procedures to ensure delegates are not disadvantaged but the work is their own. We have updated our induction and policy and will make all delegates aware of the use of AI. A great tool, but gosh, it's hard to control, isn’t it?
Stop elevating training in your posts lol – yes, we see you – using AI to draft your content. But, it’s not impressive – see what we did there? (Dictionary meaning ????)
Health and Safety News & Useful Updates
Topic: King's Speech 2024
Regulation: Indirect, various
Summary: The new mental health bill announced in the speech is an anticipated and much-welcomed proposal, due to criticisms of the current Mental Health Act 1983 on the treatment of black people, as well as those with learning disabilities and autism.
Topic: Employees – remind them of their duties under Section 7 to the Health and Safety at Work Act!
Regulation: Direct

Summary: The HSE recently prosecuted an employee for breaching Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 following an accident which occurred on the 30th July 2018. The employee had used a forklift truck with an attached potato box to lift an apprentice electrician 4 metres high to carry out electrical repairs. Due to the instability of the potato box, the apprentice fell and punctured a lung and fractured his ribs. The employee pleaded guilty to breaching Section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and was fined £2000 and ordered to pay £560.40 in costs. In this case, the HSE prosecuted the employee and not the employer because the employer had taken all reasonable steps to ensure compliance. The employer had carried out a risk assessment and had provided suitable equipment for the work, but the employee in charge of the work did not use it.

Team Insights
It’s been such a busy period over the last few weeks. PGL had their inaugural Euro’s sweepstake and I’m sure, like you, we were engrossed from start to finish. It’s such a shame England ?? didn’t quite get over the finish line, but Spain ???? were definitely worthy winners. The last two people in the final from the sweepstake were Sarah with England and Daz with Spain. Should we have a sweepstake on the next England manager – we’ve heard some crazy names being bandied about!
??? Everyone was jealous last week as Laura had a well-deserved early summer holiday with her family. It absolutely chucked it down here all week, so she certainly picked the right week to escape the blights of the UK weather ???.
?? Exciting news coming. We have another new starter arriving in the next couple of weeks who we’re sure will add to the success of our existing team.
?? Ben recently sat down with the business awards to do an interview on our recent success as the winner of the training provider of the year award which will be released next week. It’s nice to reflect on success and focus the mind on future ambitions – we look forward to sharing the content and receiving your feedback.
