PFAS – What are they and why are they critical to Sealing Devices?

Chesterton Customseal is thrilled to present at the Valve World Conference, where we will explore a topic integral to the current market: PFAS. While PFAS and their uses are hotly contested in the current climate, some types are environmentally safe and critical for industrial applications. 4,700+ commercially available chemicals fall into this category; however, all may be banned due to the health hazards associated with a subset of these chemicals.

The paper and presentation from Chesterton's Michael Wachinger will discuss fluoropolymers and fluoroelastomers considered safe as defined by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as Polymers of Low Concern as used in valves and seals. The importance of fluoropolymers and fluoroelastomers in a broad range of devices in many industries cannot be understated and banning PFAS that are considered safe would be catastrophic for the valve industry. Consideration must be given to an individualised approach for each PFAS type and use rather than eliminating all usage. Come along and join the conversation at the Valve World Conference.

Download our FREE whitepaper to examine the importance of fluoropolymers and fluoroelastomers while focusing on the potential ramifications for industrial operations should use be banned or restricted.
