PEX Pipework for Domestic Hot and Cold services

PEX Pipework for Domestic Hot and Cold services

We have a new school under construction and the mechanical consultant is specifying PEX (crosslinked polyethelene HDPE) for part of the hot and cold water distribution. I have done some research online but all the information seems to be based on US research. Has anyone had any experience of PEX in the UK for domestic hot and cold water. Are the reports of sunlight instabilty, leaching of manufacturing chemicals into water supply and adverse effects to chlorine to be believed? Are there any issues with microbial growth? Would welcome comments.
