Petition "Respect the citizens' will and the Conference on the future of Europe"

Welcome to the first newsletter about?the new federalist action. Until May 2023, the UEF takes concrete action with its petition to the Council of the European Union "Respect the citizens' will and the Conference on the Future of?Europe?(CoFoE)".

The petition, which was first discussed at the?UEF's February Federal Committee , is an initiative aimed at supporting the European Parliament in its battle for the launch of a Convention on the reform of the treaties, based on the conclusions of the CoFoE.

The am of the petition is to involve citizens and show the importance of?popular participation in this process. This is why?everybody must commit to circulating it and collecting endorsements, at the European level and in each?section of the UEF.

The petition is explicitly linked to?the open letter ?that the CoFoE Citizen?Ambassadors sent to the Council on 2 December, warning of the Council's attempts at blocking?the process of Treaty reform and the Convention, thus failing to answer to the?conclusions of the CoFoE.

The petition was officially launched at the European level on?28 March?with the?"Treaty Reform Now!"?event?at the European Parliament, while the Italian section?had already implemented it. The work is starting in France, Spain, Hungary, and Greece?with the translation of the petition into their respective national languages.

While we write this newsletter, the petition has collected more than?a thousand signatures,?including:

  • 17 MEPs and MPs,
  • 87 local elected officials,
  • 67 academics,
  • 34 journalists,
  • 54 entrepreneurs and freelancers;
  • 68 Presidents, Vice-presidents, and Secretaries-General?of European associations and NGOs,
  • 23 public policy experts and public servants,
  • 20 citizen Ambassadors of the CoFoE, and
