Peterborough Interfaith Council Conference

Peterborough, UK – On May 14th, an interfaith conference was held in Peterborough, organised by Dr Jaspal Singh.  Representatives from five faiths were invited to discuss charity. All religions emphasise giving to those in need. In Sikhi this is called Vand Chhako, which means to share with those who are in need. There are many differences between religions, but one thing that unites us all is helping the less fortunate.

Representatives of charities based in Sikhi, Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Judaism made up the panel. Sikh Channel Aid representative, Priyanca Kumari, sat on the panel to discuss the life of Bhai Kanhaiya. Throughout his life Bhai Kanhaiya displayed the concept of Seva (helping others). Bhai Kanhaiya embodied the philosophy of helping all, friend or foe, seen 150 years later in the British Red Cross.

All representatives got a chance to speak about what their faith says about charity. Sikh Channel also interviewed attendees during this event. This was an enlightening occasion that allowed all faiths to have a say. To learn more please watch the show, which is being broadcast on the 22nd of May in the evening.

About the event D.S. Bal said, “We thank Jaspal Singh and the Peterborough Council for putting this event together. It is wonderful to see different faiths coming together and showing unity. We will seek out more events such as this to highlight religious harmony in Britain.”
