Peter supercharges his work productivity with the help of AI

The following story describes a working day of Peter, a marketing manager who uses the possibilities and tools of generative AI consistently and extensively. The people involved are fictitious and the working day did not actually take place. The story is intended to illustrate the potential of AI in everyday working life.

What is real, however, are the possibilities presented, and the tools mentioned exist and can be used as described.

Peter, a dynamic thirty-year-old who leads the marketing department of a medium-sized mechanical engineering company, enters his office. It's Tuesday and Peter is in good spirits. With a friendly "Good morning!" and a joke that fills the office with laughter, he greets his colleagues and settles down at his desk. The first coffee of the day steams beside him, a faithful companion as he opens his laptop and brings ChatGPT to life.

His first task of the day is to evaluate the current marketing campaign. Peter calls up the analysis software and asks ChatGPT for the crucial figures, leveraging its Advanced Data Analysis capabilities. The AI responds promptly, as if it could read Peter's mind. The days when he spent hours manually collecting and analyzing the data are just a distant memory.

Answering his emails is next on the agenda. Peter delegates this task to Microsoft Copilot. The AI sifts through his emails, creates replies and sorts out unimportant messages. Peter briefly checks the replies and then releases them for sending. The days when he had to answer each email individually are over. Now the work is done in less than a quarter of an hour. Peter is genuinely surprised and feels a little offended because the AI’s answers and wording are better than he could have managed himself. Well, at least he benefits from it, as the AI is sending the emails on his behalf.

After working through his emails, Peter devotes himself to analyzing a competitor company. He gives ChatGPT the task of analyzing a competitor's website, using the WebPilot GPT. The AI delivers a detailed report on the competitor's strengths and weaknesses as well as comes up with recommendations for an improved positioning of Peter’s own company based on the competitor analysis. Peter notices that the market positioning of the other company has changed and that they have expanded their product portfolio. This gives Peter a good opportunity to address the issue with the management board during the upcoming strategic planning workshop, and thus put himself in a good light. With the help of ChatGPT, he will be excellently prepared.

Peter uses the content from the website to automatically create a presentation with Gamma, which he will later present to the management. With a little post-editing and tweaking, it only takes him an hour. Peter remembers how tedious competition analyses used to be – working through the websites, taking notes, working out a structure for the presentation, collecting suitable images and graphics, and then creating the slides by hand. Now it's all largely automatic. Peter breathes a sigh of relief.

During his lunch break, Peter meets his colleague Carolin in the canteen. They have known each other for a long time and, like Peter, Carolin is always open to innovation and interested in her personal development. They exchange ideas and discuss the possibilities offered by AI. Carolin is enthusiastic and Peter agrees with her. Like Peter, she uses AI intensively at work and in her private life and has thus drastically reduced her stress level and workload. They both agree that AI has really helped them.

After lunch, Peter finds a training video on SEO on YouTube. He doesn't have time to watch it in full, so he downloads the transcript and leverages ChatGPT to summarize it. This allows him to skim over the most important points during his break and dive deeper at a later time.

Hunting for another shot of caffeine Peter runs into Thomas at the coffee machine, a colleague who thinks AI is useless. Thomas seems stressed, his work is piling up. Peter suggests that Thomas tries out ChatGPT, but Thomas waves him off. Peter shrugs his shoulders. Everyone has their own way of working. However, he is glad that he has discovered AI for himself, and he would like Thomas to also make use of its capabilities. That would certainly help him.

Peter then works on creating a marketing plan. He gives ChatGPT the necessary information and lets the AI create a first draft. While the AI is working, Peter can concentrate on other tasks. The days when he created a marketing plan by hand are thankfully over. Now, with the AI, the work is done in no time at all. Peter works interactively with ChatGPT to refine the first draft step by step. Over a few iterations Peter produces a very good result that reflects his tone and writing style.

Later that afternoon, Peter works on an upcoming social media campaign. He uses Midjourney to generate images. He selects one of the images and has the background automatically replaced with Adobe Firefly. He thinks back to the days when he spent hours creating and editing images with Adobe Photoshop. Well, at least he could have done the automatic background replacement with "Generative Fill" in the current Photoshop version.

The tedious search for suitable stock photos is also no longer necessary. Now, with AI, images are automatically generated according to his specification, so the work is being done quickly. And his company has canceled the expensive outsourcing contract with a media agency as the work can now be done faster and more flexibly in-house with AI.

At the end of his working day, Peter takes part in a meeting with the sales department. He invites Otter AI, a virtual chatbot, to the meeting and has it create a transcript. After quickly reviewing the result, Peter is going to send the transcript to the other participants.

During the meeting, Peter sketches some wireframes for a new landing page. After the meeting, he takes a photo of his sketches and has Uizard convert them into a clickable flow dummy. He used to hire a freelancer for such tasks, and there was always a lot of back and forth before the result was satisfying. Now Peter can do everything himself in a fraction of the time and has full control over the result.

As the working day draws to a close, Peter looks back on his work. He has created a marketing plan, prepared a presentation, conducted a competitor analysis, answered emails, summarized a training video, planned a social media campaign and transcribed and recorded a meeting. He is amazed at how much he has achieved and how much easier and more productive his work has become with the support of AI.

He looks at his watch and sighs again. It's going to be a long evening. He can only hope that he won't be late at work tomorrow. He shakes his head and stares at his screen. There is still so much to do.

Peter is already at home, enjoying dinner with his wife. She listens attentively as he talks about his day, his successes and how AI has helped him to work more efficiently. She is impressed and pleased that Peter is so happy with his work. They laugh together and Peter feels relaxed and happy. He is looking forward to the next day with new challenges and opportunities awaiting him.
