Peter And Jonah Prove It’s Not The Preacher, It’s The HOLY SPIRIT, and ALWAYS Has Been

The point of this Lesson as is always the point each week, is to show the Bible is typically taught backwards, as it is sadly taught as a how to, or how we must act, not as it’s true complete rescue narrative.

We will see that hated Nineveh is actually US and that includes Jonah, and Jonah placed in the role of Christ, as Jesus comes to rescue the scum of the Earth ALL of us as NONE of us are Righteous period and indeed predisposed to act as Jonah.

We forget that Christ rescues HIS Enemies and NOT HIS Friends as NONE of us Love HIM of our own choosing, and YES, HE indeed Changes us into HIS True Friends, and indwells us With the HOLY SPIRIT by the Will of the FATHER.

Ps 2:1 ? Why are the nations in an uproar And the peoples devising a vain thing?

 2 The kings of the earth take their stand And the rulers take counsel together Against the LORD and against His Anointed, saying,

 3 "Let us tear their fetters apart And cast away their cords from us!"

 4 He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them.

 5 Then He will speak to them in His anger And terrify them in His fury, saying,

 6 "But as for Me, I have installed My King Upon Zion, My holy mountain."

 2 "Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and proclaim to it the proclamation which I am going to tell you."

 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three days' walk.

 4 Then Jonah began to go through the city one day's walk; and he cried out and said, "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown."

 5 ? Then the people of Nineveh believed in God; and they called a fast and put on sackcloth from the greatest to the least of them.

 6 When the word reached the king of Nineveh, he arose from his throne, laid aside his robe from him, covered himself with sackcloth and sat on the ashes.

 7 He issued a proclamation and it said, "In Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles: Do not let man, beast, herd, or flock taste a thing. Do not let them eat or drink water.

 8 "But both man and beast must be covered with sackcloth; and let men call on God earnestly that each may turn from his wicked way and from the violence which is in his hands.

 9 "Who knows, God may turn and relent and withdraw His burning anger so that we will not perish."

 10 When God saw their deeds, that they turned from their wicked way, then God relented concerning the calamity which He had declared He would bring upon them. And He did not do it.

Acts 2:1 ? When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place.

 2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

 3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.

 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.

 5 ? Now there were Jews living in Jerusalem, devout men from every nation under heaven.

 6 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own language.

 42 ? They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.

 43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.

 45 and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.

So that said again, this Lesson will not be a typical three-point message, but instead a narrative on two of the most affective Sermons spoken by a Human (Yes, Our LORD Jesus Christ is both and fully Divine) in all of Scripture.

You will note this also will not use the pattern I pointed out two summers ago in the Series of Lessons, “Is the Church Killing Christianity” a series we will soon return to, as we will NOT be quoting the Seminary Standard Three Theologian cover fire for Pastors estranged to the Bible.

So, let’s dig in shall we;

What is the Background of our two Sermons?

First Jonah is pissed off (yes this is appropriate language for a Sermon as we need to understand He is beyond angry) that the LORD would even dare to ask Him for traveling and witnessing to of all places those pieces of body waste Nineveh!

This really is our today’s equivalent to the LORD asking us to witness to the Iranian’s, or before his death Osama Bin Laden, for real!!!!

So, with all the excuses in place, Jonah gets his instructions from GOD, and I fear if honestly taught reacts as we would save the LORD’S enlightenment, as Jonah pouts and ends up in the Belly of the Huge Fish for three days before relenting to go and witness to Nineveh.

Now for a minute let’s think about Jonah’s deep sermon prep, how many Scrolls, and the 3 prophets He will quote.

And yet, this message is by numbers awaken the most effective message EVER Spoken by a true Human being in ALL of Scripture converting “more than 120,000 persons”.

But before we look at the text of that Great and inspiring message let’s look at two other sermons, this time taught by Peter.

The first is in our second reading and the second is in Act 10, both sermons are going to be interrupted midstream and yet both had a huge effect on those congregated to hear Him.

Our first example is of course the Acts 2 passage that includes the Pentecost narrative that should be expanded to Peter’s address and the “about three thousand souls” who had their eyes opened by the HOLY SPIRIT in the same manner as HE visited the Disciples in the closed room.

But again, we ask when and where did Peter prepare and get His Sermon preparation?

As we have read and will again in Acts 10, Peter neither lays out His 3 points, nor does He quote the three theological Stars of the day.

In Both addresses He quotes only the Scriptural narrative cover to cover, never wavering, and the HOLY SPIRIT does the work of enlightening, and in each those Congregated are awaken to Faith in Christ, though this one is to the Gentiles, in what is called by most, the Gentile Pentecost.

So, what is central in both of these messages is a reliance on the Holy Scriptures cover to cover and NOT fragmentized as the text, and the HOLY SPIRIT to awaken.

This is also proved by perhaps the greatest laying out of the Full Message of the true Biblical narrative by Deacon Stephen in Acts 6 and 7 as His address IS truly one of the Best Period!

But what affect does it have on those He is addressing, and all are among the Religious Class?

Correct Dead in the Trespasses and Sins the Religious Leaders drag Stephen from the City and Kill Him as the Message, as great as it was had NO effect on these who have had the best Biblical training!

So, Peter, interrupted twice, and Jonah’s begrudging Message to Nineveh have the mind boggling effect and Stephen’s excellent Address has NO Effect.

What can we ONLY conclude?  

It’s Not The Preacher, It’s The HOLY SPIRIT, and ALWAYS Has Been

Oh Yeah, what was the text of the sermon that cause through the Power of the HOLY SPIRIT over 120,000 Ninevites to Have their eyes opened to the LORD?

 "Yet forty days and Nineveh will be overthrown."

Must have taken Him Hours of study and reading to prepare, full sarcasm intended!

Our Salvation Is a Merciful act of our TRIUNE GOD Alone!
