Climate change is a whole lot of fear, fear and more fear...served with a side of panic.
Honestly, it can get a little tiring.
Especially for those of us working on problems in this space.
What if all this fear is actually hurting the cause?
I don’t know where I read it, but I love this line.
Pessimists sound smart, optimists make money.
Fundamentally I know why climate change is mostly perceived as a “fear†issue. Media companies use fear to get eyeballs and clicks, and that drives their financial model.
It’s a classic case of show me the incentive and I’ll show you the outcome. (ty Munger).
But what if the solution to climate change is optimism?
What if it’s hope?
What if we’re looking at the greatest business opportunity ever AND the greatest humanitarian act ever?
Human beings have an insane capacity for creativity.
Why are we so convinced that we can’t show up to what might be the greatest challenge in our species existence?
Have we not proven that we can overcome giant, seemingly insurmountable problems in the past?
Hell, we’ve invented some crazy shit just for the hell of it.
What if we actually tried?
While others choose between carrying a picket and protesting or denying climate change entirely, what if you chose to do the work?
I choose optimism. I choose to do the work.
Let’s fucking go already!
