Kids were flying helicopters and rounding up livestock on motorbikes at The Livestock Collective’s Perth Royal Show stand.
They ducked and weaved, and whooped and froze, while taking the action in using virtual reality headsets.
“It's very memorable. Their parents are often filming them and laughing at them because they're super animated,” TLC General Manager Kate Bishop says.?
“It gives them their first little taste of agriculture and livestock production so that's a win for me.”
Over the week-long event 724 children used the headsets, with the most common age group being aged under 12.
“In total we had 1749 visit us specifically at the stand including parents, grandparents and extended family. They watched the videos, jumped on the headsets and participated in our colouring in competition,” Kate says.

?While children were distracted with their tasks, the adults were invited to watch supply chain videos as well as an animation about live export regulation and compliance, which was launched at the event.
It was the third year TLC has been invited to the event.
“I think this was probably the most accepting the public has been. We were in a great little area where families were there to learn about agriculture, they were there to ask really good questions about farming and sheep production and livestock production. We were engaging with people that were interested to learn more,” she says.
The most common question asked was about how many sheep and cattle are exported every year.
“Thank you to the show for once again inviting us to be part of this wonderful event. We would also like to thank the Prime Merino Lamb Alliance, Stud Merino Breeders’ Association of Western Australia and MLA for providing funding which contributed to the event,” Kate says.
The Livestock Collective stand was a part of a sheep display in the Amherst Farm activity at the show. The Royal Ag Society of WA estimates about 9000 families took part in this activity over the week and visited all the activity areas including the sheep display.
