This month we have gone Back-to Basics. Today we are looking at persuasion.?

You can persuade your way to growth by getting others to fall in love with your brand.

People always come with a set intention...your job as a Startup Founder is to persuade them to turn that intention around, and change their mind.

Qu.?Why do we need?to persuade others?

Ans. Persuasion is a core business skill. The life and death of our Startup depends on our ability to persuade others.

As Founders we need to persuade others to:

  • Accept our business ideas.?We need to persuade funders to invest in our idea(s). Even before you produce your business plan you may need to convince others that your business?idea is a good one.??
  • Work for us.?Especially when asking for pro-bono help?when boot strapping a Startup. Even when we are paying staff, we need to persuade?them join and stay.?
  • Buy from us.?Especially in?a competitive market place where?they are similar products and services. Even persuading potential customers to buy when it is outside of their planned budget.?
  • Do business with us.?Not all suppliers trust Startups?to?sell their branded products/services. We need to persuade them even when we are not their preferred dealer/retailer/partner.??
  • And so on..

Persuasion?- is it love or hate?

Successful leaders are persuasive! They know how to persuade their audiences to love their brand. There are 4?types of audience that you need to persuade to get them to fall in love with your brand:

  • Staff
  • Suppliers
  • Funders
  • Customers?

As a Founder you are representing your brand, so you have to ensure that you are on message.

What is being on message?

Being on message is not only how you speak?about your brand, but that your brand message incorporates the key message to persuade others about your veracity.

Your key message must persuade your others:

  • That your VALUES are aligned?to theirs
  • That?YOU believe what they believe
  • That YOU?want what they want for themselves, and that is to?make their lives better.?

You never know when, or where?you are going to be asked 'what do you do?'?So as you are your Startup's main brand ambassador you?must always be prepare to persuade.?
