Perspectives and Possibilities

Perspectives and Possibilities

I suppose I have a certain "bent" to my writing. I focus on our humanity: our infinitesimally small role in the universe at large, but our outsized role here on this terrestrial ball we call "Earth." I acknowledge our brokenness, give life to our parched and weary souls, and...occasionally write poems. If the shoe fits...

Tr?lanípa is a jutting cliff of rock, carved from the world around, standing tall above the ocean far below. If you've any sense of vertigo or fear of heights, this'll do you in for sure. That being said, it's achingly beautiful for all of its terrible and raw glory. You get a sense, once again, of being put in your place, pressed on all sides by gravity, wind, rain, and the ferocity of nature herself.

To get there, you have to hike a bit. It's not the most difficult, in my reckoning, but it'll task you especially if you're wearing a heavy amount of gear (I was lugging around ~40-50lbs) and in the requisite layers of dry pants, coats, and boots. All in all, you'll get to this crease in the coast line, wanting to stop, and you'll be rewarded with this magnificent shot.

You can stop here and know that you're seeing primordial history and the unfurling of all the fire and fury that nature can summon. It's sufficient for most, satiating that innate desire for place and position but, it doesn't quite answer the ultimate quest we have: to SEE as we are seen, removed from the landscape around and surrounded, on all sides, by the infinite weight of the grandiose and spectacular.

Should you proceed on, to the top of its winding trails and rain-slicked exteriors, you'll be rewarded with a vista like no other.

Both views are incredible. One maximizes the reach of this place, the smallness of our persons whilst the other reaches to the far horizon and pulls it into an infinite box for you to try to reason and rationalize. They're epic for their differences, for their pushing and pulling of perspective, and the delight of those far corners of your soul.

We've hit our peak this week. Ran through a few days of Mondays to reach that tipping point of the week where we can see where we've been and where we've yet to wander.

Our souls are restless for the respite we feel coming but there's still miles ahead for our feet to trod. We're aching for the release of love and wanderlust, to hold fast to our kith and kin, and to plot the next chapters of our lives. Perhaps we've been traveling, engaging all our senses in the excitement of new places, familiar faces, and incarnate beauty. Perhaps we've found our hearts inflamed, if only for a moment, by a glance, a look, a conversation and are luxuriating in the warm glow of possibilities. Perhaps we've taken solace in the arms of our beloved, the challenges of work and life taking their toll on mind and body and just needing their presence to fight off the dark.

Whatever the circumstance, whatever the driving force for this week, you're not alone on this path. We're hiking these same trails, some ahead, some behind, and coming to our own points of recognizance.

My dear souls, as you continue your path of the week, don't fail to look around and find your place. Stop along the way and be amazed for how far you've come and what amazing shit you've weathered. Look at the insurmountable beauty of the life you've lived, scars and all, and find within them the strength to keep pushing on. I, faceless and meaningless as I may be, have the utmost faith in you.

Push onwards and upwards.

May it ever be so.
