A Lot on the Line: Olsson Keeps Pace with America's Changing Power Grid
It’s an exciting time to be in the business of solving energy-supply problems, John Henning says. Exciting, Olsson’s energy market leader says, not because it’s easy work, but rather the opposite. A global spike in energy consumption, an aging U.S. power grid, and a series of sustainable energy options that introduce new complications keep experts like John and his Olsson colleagues in demand.
Engineering the Future During E-Week
This month, Olsson is bringing engineering to life for more than 2,600 elementary students throughout the country. In honor of Engineers Week (E-Week), Olsson volunteers are visiting about 90 classrooms to lead a hands-on engineering activity for students. Together, we are making bubble blowers, building bridges, and creating earthquake-resistant structures.?
Shoutout to Superheroes and Surveyors
I felt pride when I saw the name of a 3D capture consultant buried in the credits of the superhero flick. “Look! What I do is relevant,” I said to my fiancée and our kids. “Spiderman says so!” They know I’m a professional surveyor, not an Avenger. But in my daily work, I employ the same 3D capture technology that special effects experts use to make Spiderman swing over a Manhattan streetscape.
Olsson Unveils New Fayetteville Office
Olsson recently held a grand opening to unveil a new three-story office in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The facility will accommodate the engineering and design firm’s steady growth in Northwest Arkansas and allow it to meet rising demand throughout the region. The 39,000-square-foot office complex is located at 3537 N Steele Boulevard and includes open spaces, conference rooms, “Zoom rooms” and a rooftop patio area. About 200 employees and clients attended the grand opening event last month.
Olsson Announces 29 Employees Earn PE and PLA Licenses
Twenty-nine employees from Olsson recently passed standard required exams and earned their Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Landscape Architect (PLA) licenses.?To earn a PE license, a person must complete four years of professional experience under a licensed PE and pass the PE exam. A PLA license requires passing the landscape architect registration exam.
Building Bridges and Opportunities on the Job
Olsson’s Tejal Desai enjoys trying new things. It’s helped her find her niche in engineering – and excel in it.?She has a background in structural engineering and specializes in transportation as an Olsson project engineer.?
Tejal’s day is filled with bridge designs, math (the subject that inspired her to pursue engineering), and visits to project sites. “You can try out different things and find your niche and excel in it,” she said. “For me, I love to work with anything with bridges. I love to design them.?I love to inspect them.”?
