How effective is your whistleblowing programme?

Principle 19 of the Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance

Whistleblowing programmes help organisations become aware of suspected wrongdoing or risk of wrongdoing. Wrongdoing includes, but not limited to, fraud, theft, bullying, harassment, violation of policies or regulations. In 2022, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) reported that 42% of occupational fraud were detected through whistleblower reports, with more than half of these coming from employees of the victim organisations. Principle 19 of the Nigerian Code of Corporate Governance 2018 requires that all organisations operating in Nigeria implement effective whistleblowing programmes.

Ghana Banking Survey Report 2023

How do banks in Ghana intend to build back?

In the third quarter of 2022 Ghana’s debt stock was assessed as having reached unsustainable levels. And the world economy was just recovering from the COVID-19 shock when Russia attacked Ukraine. The resultant shock to the supply chains of major commodities sent world prices on an inflationary trajectory. Ghana’s economy was not spared. A strong US Dollar and increasing US interest rates made it increasingly difficult for government to service its debt. As a result the ministry of finance, in December 2022, announced a suspension of payments on selected external debts and then launched the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme (DDEP). It is within this context that we seek to understand the impact of the DDEP on the banking industry and how banks intend to build back, post-DDEP.

Taxing Times Survey 2023

PwC’s annual Taxing Times Survey assesses corporate taxpayers’ perceptions of the tax system and their experiences with SARS

Our sixth edition of the annual Taxing Times Survey was concluded during July, with 182 corporate taxpayers across 16 industries participating. The survey outcomes enable us to understand taxpayers’ pain points when dealing with SARS and constructively assist and support them. It is also a platform which we use to actively engage with SARS about how it can improve public trust, efficiency and confidence in the tax administration system, as well as its stakeholder relationships.
