The Perspective of the Lady at the Front Desk

I was waiting for an executive to come and get me at the front desk at one of my clients’ offices today. I noticed the perspective plaque on her wall and read it. After reading it, I asked if I might take a picture of it so I could have it to share. She said, “by all means!” and we struck up a conversation.

She also had many pictures on her wall which were obviously family and friends, but one caught my eye. It was a soldier in body armor holding a military rifle. I asked who that was. She told me it was her son and he isn’t with us any more. He was killed several years ago in an otherwise safe suburb of Los Angeles where they lived.

She said he was killed by our “domestic terrorists” while doing a church organized motorcycle fund raising drive to help someone else who needed it. She went on to tell me that because a group of them were on motorcycles in that particular spot at that time, another gang assumed they were in a gang and mowed them down. She lost her son and two nephews that day.

But there she was, helping me, inspiring me and others, and anyone else she could help. And she was happy despite all that she has endured. I thanked her for her story and left more inspired than ever before to support anti-drug, anti-crime, human rights, and pro-survival causes that I’ve devoted myself to supporting for some time now.  Goes to show you that the best way to help yourself is often times to find someone else and help them.
