Perspective Change...

Last week, I reminded you to "Stay Small."

This does not require you to think small.

Or be small.

Or work on small things (yes, you should change the world if that's your passion!).

This week, I don't want you to think about changing your perspective.

Notice the title of this article today?

Let's examine how shifting those two words can help you increase your productivity by doing less.

The Problem:?We've Always Done It This Way

This week, imagine you and I are standing in front of a clock store. A store. That only sells clocks.

You wonder, "Darn... I'd hate to have to be the person that has to change the clocks 2x a year."

[ side note to my friends in Phoenix and other places that don't change the clocks 2x / year --> It's a thing (coming soon once again)! ]

ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "My boss keeps reminding me that we've always done it this way."

How often do you hear that?

How often do you say that?

Does it EVER trigger thoughts that give you that warm fuzzy feeling?

Probably not.

Me neither.

Shoot... it's like that song "Tradition" and sigh... well. Let's move on (and you are welcome for the ear worm).

If you are hearing those words -- or saying them yourself -- try the following actionable tip today.

The Actionable Tip: Perspective Change

Let's try a concrete and simple example.

You have a calendar ("diary" in the non-USA parlance).

You might look at it sometimes (you know, to BLOCK TIME lol).

I've "always" looked at my calendar view starting Sunday and viewed by the week (you can do this in google calendar or whatever app you are using).

In the past, I've tried changing that to "start" the week on Monday instead. And damn... ugh... my brain could. not. wrap. my. head. around. it. My days literally felt out of step and when I tried to schedule times on it ughhhh.

[ admit it, you've tried it and brained your fried too, right? ]

Something I am trying as a perspective change today will be to change my calendar view to "Schedule".

Screw "tradition."

Yeah. I'm a rebel. [ or I need a life ]

Your Next Step...

Try something simple (you can riff on my example above) to change your perspective.

Err... I mean...

Perspective Change.

In the comments below, please share?ONE?actionable tip about how you have broken the pattern of, "We've always done it this way!"

Thank you.

My ONE?actionable tip about how I have broken the pattern of, "We've always done it this way!" is to have a diverse group of friends/associates that you can bounce ideas off. Diverse in as many ways as possible - demographically, socially, socioeconomically, etc. - and work with them to create a proverbial safe space to share ideas. This has always been valuable for me to facilitate perspective change.
