Personalized Lessons:
Definition: Personalized lessons are?created by AI algorithms that?analyze learners’ data to determine the knowledge gaps?and?create instructions on how to fill in these gaps. AI algorithms analyze learner data (e.g., performance, preferences, and learning styles) to tailor content, pace, and instructional strategies to individual needs.
Objective: To optimize learning engagement, effectiveness, and efficiency by addressing specific knowledge gaps and catering to individual learning preferences.
Limitations:
·??????? It creates instructions for filling in knowledge gaps?and?focuses exclusively on the traditional pedagogy of explicit learning (conscious learning/memorization).
·??????? It suffers from appalling forgetting curves and cross-translation problems by encouraging direct translation between languages, hindering fluency and natural language processing.
·??????? Rigorous scientific research has debunked the idea that tailoring instruction to specific learning styles significantly improves learning outcomes.

Self-Personalized Lessons:
Definition: Learners create self-personalized lessons by writing AI queries that reflect their current level in the target language, interests, and vocational needs. The objective is to create more engaging, effective, and efficient learning experiences that allow implicit learning?and are instrumental in developing fluency in foreign languages since they eliminate forgetting and cross-translation problems typical for personalized lessons. Learners are the creators of their learning journey and apply a new pedagogy of implicit learning to their created content. Thus, the impact of self-personalized lessons is dramatically different from the personalized lessons created by AI.
Objective: To create engaging, effective, and efficient learning experiences that integrate the benefits of three revolutions: AI, subconscious training, and guided self-learning.
Advantages: ?
·??????? The Best of Three Worlds: Combines the power of AI with the benefits of subconscious training (through immersive, personalized content) and the autonomy of guided self-learning.
·??????? Enhanced Retention and Fluency: By focusing on meaningful content and implicit learning, self-personalized lessons eliminate forgetting?and?cross-translation problems and encourage natural language acquisition.
·??????? Learner Autonomy: You are in control! Choose what you want to learn, how you want to learn it, and at your own pace.

5 个月Heather, You answered a complex question with a simple truth that ends the discussion. Here is another question for you. Esl teachers know quite well that corrective feedback is counterproductive for adult ESL learners, who make the same mistakes irrespective of feedback. Why there is no language application that doesn't offer corrective feedback?

5 个月Who can explain the apparent disconnect between the potential of self-personalized learning and the continued dominance of personalized learning models in language learning portals? Self-personalized learning flips the script on content: learners curate their materials from the vast ocean of online resources. AI can assist in this process by recommending relevant resources based on individual goals and preferences. AI as a tool, not a guide: AI plays a supporting role, helping learners track progress and identify areas for improvement. It does not dictate a rigid learning path. Most importantly, it allows us to shift to implicit learning, which has been proven to be a more effective pedagogy for developing fluency in a foreign language. Despite these advantages, some challenges remain: ·???????Overcoming the "course" mentality: Many learners are accustomed to structured courses and may find the open-ended nature of self-directed learning daunting. ·???????Developing self-discipline: Self-personalized learning requires high?motivation and self-discipline to stay focused and consistent. ·???????The need for guidance: While learners drive the process, some guidance or mentorship can be beneficial, especially for beginners.
