This 21st Century with its ever-growing technology now gives us educators the ability to personalize learning using AI.
There is much literature about "Personalized Learning" and I can tell you that this type of learning has been around for a while. Teaching students with disabilities is a clear example. ?
I have used personalized learning before, but now we can use it at a larger scale, we can create the curriculum, lessons and assessments much faster. AI is saving us valuable time that we can use in other tasks.
Personalized Language learning at our school has become more scientific, organized and data driven and is giving us great results. ?We can now have students speaking a second language at an A1-A2 level in 3 to 6 months.
Research literature on personalized learning using A1 shows that educators should look at 10 to 12 strategies. I will have to split this discussion into 2 or 3 postings because of the complexity and importance of all 12 strategies.
Strategy 1 is obvious, Personalized learning is "Student Centered".
At our language school we have been student centered for many years. We know each student well and we know their story, their goals and their progress.
We have created learner profiles for every single student (strategy 2) to be able to create clear learning paths (strategy 4) and realistic learner goals for each student.
During registration we ask and maintain a database of key questions we have specifically asked each student.
Is your language learning for travel?
for international work?
for going back to school?
领英推è
for moving to another country?
for communicating with relatives in other countries?
Which industry are you in?
If a student is in the medical industry, we use AI to help us create the curriculum, the lessons and the assessments for the medical industry.
If a student is in the construction industry, we use AI to help us create the curriculum, the lessons and the assessments for the construction industry.
If the student is in banking, real estate, finance or other industries we use AI to help us build the curriculum and lessons for those industries and for those specific goals.
Our teachers and educators do review and edit all the above curriculum, lessons and assessment.
Our classes are made up of small groups of no more than 4 students, (strategy 3)
With this important student data, we can create learning paths (strategy 4) that are specific for each and every one of our students. These learning paths will be created by AI, they will be reviewed by our educators, and they will be based on the particular information that we obtained from each student.
Going to strategy 5, we can now set individual criteria for measuring progress for each student, again based on all of the previous student profile information.
Leave your comments and share your examples here and stay tuned for the next 5 strategies.
