Personalized connection notes difficult from mobile platforms
D. Matt Scherer
I help those traveling on their personal transition highway capitalize on LinkedIn and its networking power to advance their lives and careers
As a retired military professional, I understand the challenges that come with transitioning to a new career. That's why I'm always happy to connect with others who are going through a similar experience to my departure 25 years ago. ?
?However, I often receive connection requests from fellow military professionals without any personal note. To me, the well-written, thoughtful notes catch my attention and make me want to accept the outreach. ?
?My personalized LinkedIn coaching experience has shown me that when using a cell phone to connect with others from LinkedIn that the “personalized invite” option is hard to locate in either the iPhone or Android phones.?
?I recently met Guillermo, an Army officer, who is facing a future transition. Standing next to him, I showed him how to find me on LinkedIn and then connect with me. Like many others, he hit the connect option.?
That sent me a connection without a note.?

Several months ago, I created this YouTube video for my friends at the Coffee Bunker Tulsa . I used this video to help people like him understand the extra steps needed to personalize a connection.?
?One LinkedIn survey showed that in a group of 100 connections, 60-percent accepted a connection request with a note.?
?While I made this to help the thousands of military professionals make an exodus to new opportunities, this video can support others. College students, military spouses changing careers and others who want to find new opportunities can learn in the video how to personally connect on LinkedIn with their mobile platform.?
?If you have gotten some exceptional connection notes from others, please share them with me.?
?I already have a large file of terrible ones, such as the ones starting with “I am most impressed by your resume.”?
?So please send me your best ones, and I’ll share them with others to inspire them to create their better connection notes.?

8 个月Absolutely! Personalizing connection notes on LinkedIn can really set you apart from the crowd. It shows that you're not just trying to bump up your numbers, but genuinely interested in the person you're connecting with. It's a shame that some transition programs might not emphasize the importance of this. I'm curious, have you got any tips on crafting the perfect connection note? Would love to hear your thoughts, especially for those of us keen on making meaningful connections!

9 个月D. Matt Scherer I love personal notes! This is another benefit of getting the premium account; however, those of us without it have been restricted to 5 DMs a month to people we are not connected to. I will respond with a message if you accept my connection request!
