Personalize Your Connection Requests
Professional networking is extremely important and LinkedIn makes it easy to do. A strong professional network can lead to job opportunities, leads, collaborators, clients, and much more.
If you're not connected, you're disconnected.
Consider connecting with co-workers, classmates, people you meet at a conference, people working at a company you're interested in, people in your industry who share articles and resources, like-minded professionals or anyone else who can add value to your network. When connecting with others on LinkedIn, though, send a personalized connection request!
I receive a lot of connection requests on LinkedIn and I'm always surprised by the number of people who request a connection without any personalized message as to why they would like to connect. Letting the other person know why you would like to connect will greatly improve your chances of someone accepting the request.
Some quick examples of things you might say:
- It was great to meet you at the conference last week, let's connect.
- I love the article you posted on LinkedIn. I have a similar philosophy and would love to connect.
- I work in the same field as you and would love to add you to my network!
- Etc....
So, how do you send a personalized connection request?
It's easy.
1st. When you come across someone's profile on LinkedIn that you would like to connect with, you will see the blue Connect button. Click this.
This will bring up a pop-up box asking if you would like to customize the invitation.(You do). Click on Add a note.
Next, add your note:
Yes. It was really that easy. Now, go do that!
If you're using a mobile device, it is a little bit different.
For some reason on the mobile app, when you press connect, it will automatically send the connection request and doesn't ask if you'd like to customize it.
No worries. Just click on the three-dots icon next to the connect button.
From here, you will see another menu that looks like this:
... and there it is! Personalize your invite, and send it on it's way!
Booyah! Go do that.?
