On recent episodes of The ABM Voice podcast, industry leaders shared their insights into the challenges of personalization and how marketers can overcome them.


The Challenges of Personalization at Scale

  1. Lack of Deep Insights "Intent data is only part of the puzzle. Without understanding the ‘why’ behind account behavior, it’s impossible to optimize campaigns," said Jim Gilkey. Many marketers struggle to get actionable insights that go beyond basic data points.
  2. Difficulty Identifying Decision-Makers Navigating large, complex buying committees is a recurring challenge. Combining first-party data with behavioral insights is essential for mapping decision-makers and engaging the right stakeholders.
  3. Scaling Personalized Content "Content marketing isn’t about quantity; it’s about answering the right questions," shared Andrei Zinkevich. However, crafting content for dozens or hundreds of accounts is a resource-intensive process that often overwhelms teams.
  4. Generic Messaging Sanjay Shah pointed out a common issue: "If your messaging sounds like it came from a template, it’s forgettable." Tailored messaging—especially on platforms like LinkedIn—has become crucial for standing out in saturated markets.
  5. Impatience for Results “ABM isn’t a shortcut—it’s a commitment,” emphasized Daniel Englebretson. Focusing on a narrow list of accounts and collaborating with sales teams over time is key to long-term success.

The People-First Philosophy

  • Incorporate human touches like handwritten notes or personalized direct mail to stand out.?
