Personality #JungianBitsofInformation

In my last #JungianBitsofInformation posting, I posed the question 'So, what happens when the mid-life crisis takes a more transformational route?" Some of the readers of this post may be familiar with the motif of the phoenix rising from the ashes. The mid-life crisis is like a raging fire burning down a much loved house and it's treasured contents, i.e. the structure of the personality is reduced to ashes. The individual feels lost, the old personality no longer works, or fits, there is a distinct feeling that something new, something different is needed. This distinct feeling unconsciously drives many to therapy or analysis where the new and emerging personality is questioned, explored and better still, integrated. The foundation of a new house is built in therapy and analysis. The individual's personality transforms, their life changes, they have different goals and interests, their motivations change. Many leave their old careers and start new ones. Others find their true vocation. A phoenix rising from the ashes. The individual is unrecognisable, from their pre mid life crisis personality. A transformation takes place. A jungian analysis is one way of helping individuals navigate their way through their crisis, it takes time, but eventually something stirs from the ashes, and once stirred, who knows what or where the phoenix will fly towards. Work seems to be the way many people define themselves - I am a doctor, I am an engineer, I am a consultant, I am a manager. Others find that definition limiting to their true personality. The mid life crisis may be a sign that something is not quite right. Do you want a career or a vocation? Find out more in my next posting of #JungianBitsofInformation
