Personalised Care- Disability in the heart of care.

Personalised Care- Disability in the heart of care.

Health inequality is still a great challenge in the UK, and the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic provided shocking evidence of these inequalities.

Based on the research carried out by The King's Fund and Disability Rights UK, 60% of the people who died from Covid-19 in its first year were disabled.

The Covid-19 fatalities, which included over a quarter of the British population, prompted several people and organisations to consider equity.

Recognising the viewpoints of the disabled as they do their own, as well as including the disabled in designing and planning health and care systems to ensure that their interests and needs are well-paid attention and are on the agendas of local lawmakers.

As Health and Social Care Professionals, we need to build a community where we feel cared for when we become disabled unexpectedly; after all, we are all humans with needs.

It is important that everyone understands that disabled individuals are a part of our society; they are our friends, families, and neighbors and have the same rights as everyone else.

The social model method, for example, can be used in the healthcare system. The method entails healthcare staff collaborating with other sectors such as the DPO, Housing, Primary Care providers, Volunteer Communities

As professionals who have the opportunity to have a positive impact on the lives of the people we support, and understand secondhand what their needs are, It should be our responsibility to ensure that the disabled are treated fairly by:

  • Seeking the opinions of the experts through lived experiences (Disabled).
  • Including these voices at every service level down to service delivery.
  • Continuously Planning and Designing and Re-designing Care From relevant data sources such as feedback, survey, and up-to-date studies.

To make the voices of the disabled heard, healthcare systems, Service Providers, and the general public need to work together.
