I had the privilege to spend half a day with our FieldCore, Gas Power Operations, GRS and OSS teams today at the TUAS Power station where we are conducting a major C inspection on a GT26 in Singapore. Always an incredible opportunity to see what it really takes for these men and women keep the lights on and so much more! Always humbled by the size, scope and scale of an event like this!
What made today extremely special was that I finally had the opportunity to actually meet two incredible and selfless men who really represent to me what it means to serve a greater good and higher purpose. Steven Lee and Vikneswaran Ganasan, FieldEngineers for FieldCore, were on their way back to Singapore from Malaysia on the last night before the two countries closed their borders due to Covid. Just a couple hundred yards away from immigration they hit heavy traffic and came to a standstill prior to reaching the check point with the clock approaching midnight. With little time to spare, they made the choice to exit their ride, grab their suitcases and make their way by foot to and through immigration and into Singapore just prior to the borders closing in March.
From that point and until around October, the both of them stayed in Singapore supporting various customers, outages, and other activities. They made the choice to enter Singapore not knowing what came next and or when they would see their families again just to ensure we could be there for our customers if they needed us. Meeting them in person today it was in a matter of minutes easy to see the character of these two genttlemen and understand why they did what they did. These are just two of the countless many in GE Gas Power and FieldCore who do what it takes and then some to ensure our customers are supported as well as the customers that count on them.
I'm perssonally from the US, now living in Singapore and I still remember a commercial where at the end a man would say his closing line... "... we'll leave the lights on for you.". I'd like to close with a photo of just a few of the many folks at GE and FieldCore who actually ensure the lights come on when you flip the switch!

There is a rich tradition of GE/FieldCore Field Engineers' dedication to their occupation, mission, and customers often under harsh circumstances, the pandemic being a unique one. It's great to see this publicly recognized by leaders. (On another note, since 1986, Tom Bodett has been the spokesman for the motel chain?Motel 6, ending commercials with the phrase, "I'm Tom Bodett for Motel 6, and we'll leave the light on for you." (source Wikipedia)... a classic!) ??
